Raising puppies often seems straight forward, but without a doubt it's the most valuable time in their life in terms of training, you don't want to get it wrong.

One on one sessions are perfect to get those foundations under way

This session (which we were running out of day light!) our focus was

🐶 Building focus on their human
🐕 Name recognition
🐾 A clear communication system
🐩 Neutrality around each other, people and how to grow this
🐕‍🦺 Recall
🐺 Loose lead walking
💕 Understanding goals and setting these two trouble makers up for being the ultimate family dogs

What amazing, dedicated owners Banjo and Miley have, I can't wait to see them grow up, they are going to be amazing.

We often hear the phrase Advocate for you Dog
But what does this really mean and how can we do better?

❤️ Advocating is prioritising your dogs emotional comfort. Reading and understanding what you dog is feeling, being their voice.

‼️This doesn't need to be confrontational, if you feel confident enough to speak up have some phrases ready to go to help you in the moment

🙋"We are training, please don't let your dog say hi" or "thanks for asking, but he doesnt enjoy pats"

🚶Simply swapping to the other side of the road or changing direction is advocating.

🙅 Don't be afraid to say your dog isn't up to something (meeting a friend's dog?), it's ok to say no.

💉Vets can be pretty stressful places for some dogs. Take the time to find a vet that is willing to work with you to allow procedures to be the least stressful as possible

💜 Be there for your dog. Support them, embrace them, listen to them.

This dear old lady is our Dakota! She is approaching 15yrs old but still active for her age!
Dakota is great for working with our reactive dogs. She has pretty neutral body language and doesn't care about rowdy dogs around her.
Having neutral dogs to work around is crucial when improving reactivity and Dakota loves helping as long as there's a few treats involved!

After months and months of training, Neo and I finally had our first Scent Work trial a couple of weeks ago.
My goal was to hopefully walk away with a pass, but Neo smashed it out of the park with four passes including a second place, finding the odour in 4.5 seconds!

This is Pippa ❤️

Pippa is only 7mths old and has had an extremely tough start to life. Her mum is eager to catch up on her early training, so we got busy with markers, general obedience and trouble shooting some little issues.

Thanks for the laughs Pippa, you are a comedian!

Meet Toby!!

This adorable scruff and his hooman need some help getting his reactivity towards dogs under control, along with a few other in home issues

Our focus for our first session was clear communication.
By making sure we have consistent verbals AND are using them at the right time, we can show Toby when he is doing the right things.

Toby's leash skills were already pretty good, we just needed to start fine tuning them as this is another way we can reduce his reactivity.

Lastly we worked on body language, making sure we don't push Toby too far before he is ready.

Toby's focus for the next week is for his hooman to be not only his advocate, but his cheer leader too!
