We are lucky enough to be able to see some of our smaller “large animal” patients right here at the clinic!

Yesterday we were thrilled to finish the day on a high note with these two beautiful calves. They arrived to see Dr Gundi feeling very unwell, so it was incredibly rewarding to see them back to standing and enthusiastically drinking by the end of the day.

Moments like these are why we love what we do! 🥰

🐾 20% off a wellness blood screen

Why are Senior checks so important?

Pets over the age of 7 years can start developing many age-related diseases that can often go undiagnosed or remain hidden.

During a Seniors consultation, the vets will cover:
- arthritis management
- check for common age-related illnesses, such as heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes & hyperthyroidism
- examine any lumps and bumps
- check eye health
- check dental health

Wishing our wonderful Dr Lara safe travels as she heads off on an exciting 6-week European adventure next week! ✈️🌍

While we’ll definitely miss her around the clinic, we hope she has the most incredible time making new memories (but secretly hoping she misses us a little bit too!).

In the meantime, your furry (and not-so-furry!) family members will be in very safe hands with Dr Gundi, who has settled into the team so seamlessly it feels like she’s been here forever!

With the colder weather arriving and rodents starting to move indoors, we have seen an increase in rat bait toxicities at the clinic recently.

Most rat baits work by inhibiting Vitamin K, which prevents normal blood clotting and can lead to severe internal bleeding which can be life threatening. Unfortunately, rat bait can last in the system for 4-6 weeks and symptoms are often delayed, meaning pets can appear completely normal at first.

If you suspect your dog has eaten rat bait, it’s important to contact us immediately- ideally within 2 hours of ingestion. Early treatment can make a huge difference and may even allow us to safely induce vomiting before the toxin is absorbed. Additionally, special blood tests and Vitamin K treatment may be required.

Thankfully Scout’s owners acted quickly when they discovered he had eaten rat bait and he was made to vomit the toxin up. A recent blood test showed his blood clotting had not been affected but he will be under close observations for the next few weeks.

We are so very pleased to introduce you to Dr Gundi Rhoades who will be working full time with us for the next couple of months while some of our regular team take holidays.

Dr Gundi owns a mixed practice in NSW and is taking this opportunity to explore the Peninsula with the potential to relocate here full time. She will be seeing both our small and large animal patients while she’s here and comes with a wealth of experience.

We welcome Dr Gundi and can’t wait for you to meet her!
