Current situation update for horse owners:

Agriculture Victoria would like to thank those involved for their ongoing assistance in our investigation.

Following the announcement of an unusual level of sudden multiple deaths in horses, Agriculture Victoria can confirm only normal causes of death have been identified to date.

Horse owners can be reassured there is no need for any restrictions on horse movements and horse events and gatherings can go ahead as planned.

See our full update on the website: https://agriculture.vic.gov.au/horse-situation.

Please be mindful of what you share online, as posting misinformation can cause unnecessary alarm to horse owners.

Recent studies conducted by the Institute of Heart-Math provide a clue to explain the two-way ′′healing′′ that occurs when we're close to horses.
According to researchers, the heart has an electromagnetic field larger than the brain: a magnetometer can measure the energy field of the heart that radiates from 2.4 meters to 3 meters around the human body.
While this is certainly significant, perhaps more impressive than the electromagnetic field projected by the heart of a horse is five times larger than that of a human being (imagine an electromagnetic sphere around the horse) and it can influence straight into our own heart rate.
Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a "coherent′′ heart rate (heart rate pattern) that explains why we can feel better when we're close to them. Studies have found a coherent heart pattern or HRV to be a solid measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy-that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.
A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adapt to stressful situations very efficiently. Many times, we just need to be in the presence of horses to feel a sense of well-being and peace.
In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits by interacting with horses, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, higher beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters acting as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, decreased feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working; and greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience and self-efficacy.

Well people, it’s been a while and I know the posts have dwindled but it really wasn’t possible to do anything much over the last couple of years other than bring horses in which I did, but it became a little monotonous without clients able to be here and for a few months I considered just stopping altogether
frustrated that it just didn’t feel the same.
Apparently I’m not feeling as though I’m done because the ideas about why and how we train animals and horses in particular seem to sometimes morph into the same thing.
I’ve been fortunate to have easily connected to just about any animal since I was a kid without really thinking about it, and I haven’t thought about it until recently day dreaming of times gone by and the countless animals I had a connection with when I realised that I have unconsciously been doing the same things over and over again, whether it’s cow , cat , dog ….or a HORSE !
The principals of gaining trust and connection never change, the approach definitely changes by species but not the core principles
I’m certain that every one that has a horse has unconsciously used the very tools needed to get into horses head on another creature but sometimes question and over analyse what they do….because it’s a horse, sound familiar?
I’m thinking of a possible clinic ,
Feel free to give feedback and maybe it’ll happen in spring.

Japanese encephalitis virus has been confirmed in piggeries in Victoria.

No disease has been detected in horses to date. However, horses and donkeys can be infected from mosquito bites.

Many horses show no or only mild symptoms, but severe encephalitis can occur which may be fatal.

Horses and donkeys do not pose an infection risk to humans. Rarely humans can also get the disease from infected mosquitoes. Advice on how to protect yourself is here: www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/campaigns/beat-the-bite

Horse owners are encouraged to help their horses avoid mosquito bites by reducing mosquito breeding grounds near horses. Stabling at night, the use of a light cotton rug and fly mask and application of a safe insect repellent may also help.

Report any unexplained illness in horses, especially signs of lethargy, jaundice or hyperexcitability, to the 24-hour Emergency Animal Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888.
