🌱 Myth or Munchies? Why Dogs Eat Grass
Myth: Dogs only eat grass when they’re feeling sick.
Fact: Most dogs chomp on grass simply because… they like it! 😄
It might surprise you, but grass-eating is normal dog behavior for many pups. Here’s what we know:
💬 Why Do Dogs Do It?
• Boredom or curiosity: Especially in young or active dogs.
• Taste & texture: Some dogs genuinely enjoy the sensation.
• Instinctual habit: Wild canines consume plant matter as part of scavenging.
🚩 When to Be Concerned Grass munching isn’t necessarily a red flag, unless:
• It happens frequently or obsessively.
• It leads to vomiting or digestive upset.
• You suspect your lawn is treated with pesticides or fertilizers. ⚠️
🐾 Vet’s Take:
Grass isn’t toxic in most cases, but it's also not medicinal. While some dogs do vomit afterward, there’s no strong evidence that they eat it intentionally to soothe their stomachs.
If your dog’s grass habit seems excessive, uncomfortable, or leads to vomiting, it’s worth a quick check-in. It could be a sign of nausea or dietary imbalance.
📣 Final Tip:
Trust your instincts! You know your dog best, and when something feels “off,” we’re here to listen. Call, message, or pop in, no question is too small.
