If you’ve ever asked yourself, why do snake catchers exist? Why aren’t all snakes killed? Aren’t snakes pests? THIS POST IS FOR YOU! 🐍
In Australia, our snakes are native and protected, this is because they play a vital role in the ecosystem. They control pest population, contribute to nutrient cycling, serve as a food source for many other animals, and play a huge role in cultural significance.
Due to an influx in development, many more snakes are showing up in suburbia because of the lack of bushland that they were originally in. Because of this, the role of snake catching exists. Hundreds of snake catchers all around Australia devote 24/7 365 days of their time to rescuing and relocating snakes to ensure the species thrives. It is not only a full-time job, but a passion too.
Believe it or not, snakes are not pests. The definition of a pest is something that causes damage, spreads disease, and is a nuisance to livestock or humans…. snakes are none of that! The only way in which a snake will bite is if it is either provoked, or protecting itself from a perceived threat. Other than that, snakes try their best to stay away from us, why would they want anything to do with something 10x their size?!
If you have the time, have a scroll through our page, you might learn something and see a new perspective on snakes! Education is key 🔑
