With fully equipped examination rooms, diagnostic machines and a comprehensive pharmacy we can provide on-the-spot assistance for nearly all pet health, medical and surgical needs. We also have a web of supporting veterinary specialists to whom we can refer to and although we do offer a 24 hour emergency service we also have the back-up of an after-hours emergency clinic in the Animal Emergency Centre Canberra.

This week marks 5 years since Dr Brooke has been with us at Goulburn Vet!

It's gone in a flash, and we are so glad to have her still be a part of the team after all this time!

Happy lunar New year!

2025 is the year of the snake!

In Chinese zodiac, the snake is associated with wisdom, charm, elegance, and transformation. People born in the Year of the Snake are believed to be intuitive, strategic, and intelligent.

It's a good reminder of how special these creatures are, despite how dangerous they can be to our four-legged pets.

If your dog is going cloudy in one or both of their eyes, they might have cataracts!

Cataracts can affect vision, but they can also cause uveitis and glaucoma, which are painful conditions.

One of the most common causes of cataracts in dogs is Diabetes Mellitus, which Dobey has! Dobey is a lovely boy who has had diabetes for many years. He is managed with injections of insulin twice a day. When we noticed his right eye developing a catraract, we did some testing and prescribed drops to keep it under control, keeping him happy and pain free for longer!

Off to the wild!

This brave girl was found hanging by her foot after getting stuck in a fence!

After being brought in by a carer, she was examined, radiographed, given fluids, pain relief, muscle relaxants, and antibiotics.

Now, after ongoing care she is ready to join other joeys her age ahead of release.

Snake season is here, with reports of sightings in the Goulburn area just this week. Through the warmer months, snake bites are one of the most common emergencies that we see, and knowing the signs and symptoms of a snake bite can mean that you get your pet veterinary care sooner.

If you see a snake or suspect that your pet may have been bitten by a snake, the most important thing you can do is call the clinic and bring them in straight away.

Common signs and symptoms of snake bites include:
- generalised weakness
- vomiting
- excessive salivation
- tremors

This week we farewell Sharna as a full time nurse here at Goulburn Vet Clinic! While she will still be doing a few shifts, we are going to miss seeing her bright, happy face everyday ☀️ we are so grateful for the dedication, support, and love that she showed not only our patients, but our team for over 5 years. We wish you nothing but the best, and know how brightly you will shine in your next chapter 💜
