Our family is relocating, and while it is an exciting new chapter for us, it means the time has come to close Kalapups Dog Training.
This has not been an easy decision. Kalapups has been such a meaningful part of my life, and I am deeply grateful for every dog and every person I have had the privilege to work with along the way.
To all my clients, past and present – thank you. Thank you for trusting me with your dogs, for the hard work, the progress, the setbacks, and the successes we shared together. It has been an honour to watch so many dogs grow in confidence and to support the bond you share with them.
For those currently in classes, everything will continue as planned and I will be in contact directly if anything changes.
While it is sad to close this chapter, I will always carry so many wonderful memories with me.
Thank you for being part of Kalapups.

Let’s talk about the “magica hand.”

Well meaning people reach out their hand so a dog can sniff and make friends. For some dogs, that is fine. For others, it is the fastest way to get bitten.

A reaching hand can:
• Feel invasive
• Reduce distance
• Corner the dog
• Predict restraint

Some dogs have learned that biting makes the hand go away quickly.

A better option:
Allow the dog to approach if they choose.
Ignore them until they initiate affiliative behavior.
Watch body language carefully.

And if:
🚫 You are unsure about what you are seeing
🚫 There is a bite history
🚫 Handling is not necessary

Walking away is the safest choice.

Preventing bites is often about reducing unnecessary pressure.

A couple of weeks ago, Molly joined me at class and met Millie… and it didn’t take long before Millie decided, “Yep, you’re my new playmate!” 🐾

We headed out for a walk and Millie spent the whole time trying to convince Molly to play — bouncing, inviting, and full of joy. It was the sweetest thing to watch.

These little moments matter. They’re where confidence grows, social skills develop, and dogs learn that the world (and other dogs) can be pretty wonderful.

Safe, positive connections like this are what it’s all about ✨
