A couple of weeks ago, Molly joined me at class and met Millie… and it didn’t take long before Millie decided, “Yep, you’re my new playmate!” 🐾

We headed out for a walk and Millie spent the whole time trying to convince Molly to play — bouncing, inviting, and full of joy. It was the sweetest thing to watch.

These little moments matter. They’re where confidence grows, social skills develop, and dogs learn that the world (and other dogs) can be pretty wonderful.

Safe, positive connections like this are what it’s all about ✨

Saturday class graduates. What a great group of dogs and humans. Absent- Frankie, Luna and Teddy.

Hey. Can I just say something?
If your dog pulls on the lead, reacts to other dogs, won't come when called, or just seems to do the opposite of everything you ask — you are not a bad owner. 💛
Dogs don't come pre-programmed. They need to be taught, just like kids do. And a lot of the stuff we're told to do — short leash, firm corrections, "show them who's boss" — actually makes things harder, not easier.
You're here, you're looking for help, and that already makes you a great dog owner.
That's what Kalapups is here for. 🐾

🐾 Why some (most?) dogs don’t love head pats

We mean well… but that hand reaching over a dog’s head?
It’s not always the friendly gesture we think it is.

Here’s why many dogs aren’t fans 👇

👀 They can’t see it coming
Hands from above can feel sudden and a bit confronting

⚠️ It can feel intimidating
In dog language, reaching over the head can come across as pressure or control

😬 It can be uncomfortable
Especially for nervous dogs or those with past negative experiences. Hands can be threatening.

🐶 If your dog chooses to come to you or leans in for a pat, that’s your green light 💚
A gentle touch on the chest, side, or back is often a more comfortable option—without leaning over them.

Pause regularly… and if your dog moves away, respect that choice.

✨ It’s not just good manners—it’s about your dog’s wellbeing and helping prevent bites.

🐾 Let your dog lead the interaction.

My assistant needed a decompression walk after her two stooge jobs this morning - helping dogs who can get a bit overwhelmed and may lunge or pull when on lead near other dogs and people. This is exactly why we use controlled setups… to help dogs feel safe, calmer, and make better choices around others.
