It is coming to the end of the breeding season for us at BTKOP ,if you've been thinking about ordering eggs, now is the time to secure eggs from show birds ! As we will only be selling for one or 2 more weeks !

To help me get your eggs to you as quick as possible make sure u have sent me a screen shot of your receipt AND sent me a postage address 😉 my mail man leaves early and if I have to chase up addresses and reciepts i will miss him and your eggs won't start moving until the next day!

Why Do Some Hens Eat Their Own Eggs?🥚

It’s more common than you’d think — and usually, it’s not bad behaviour, just a sign that something’s missing or needs adjusting in the coop.

Here’s what can cause it 👇
🔸 Curiosity or Accidental Breaks – A hen pecks at a cracked egg, realises it tastes good, and soon it becomes a habit.
🔸 Calcium Deficiency – If their diet is low in calcium, hens may eat eggs to get that extra boost their bodies are craving.
🔸 Protein Deficiency – They instinctively look for extra protein and find it in the egg contents.
🔸 Boredom or Overcrowding – When hens are stressed or bored, pecking eggs can become a way to pass time.

✨ How to Prevent It:
✅ Make sure they’re getting plenty of calcium (crushed oyster shell or shell grit).
✅ Offer a balanced layer feed rich in protein.
✅ Collect eggs frequently to remove temptation.
✅ Keep nesting boxes dark, quiet, and comfortable so hens feel secure.
✅ If it’s already started, try ceramic or fake eggs – they’ll peck and lose interest when nothing happens.

With the right diet and setup, most hens stop the habit quickly! 💛🐣
