It was a wonderful way to end a big year, celebrated by the vet family from Wooroolin and Goomeri Veterinary Services.

A huge thanks to Goomeri Bowls Club for their hospitality. Thank you Gayle for keeping the drinks coming, and Bevan Sipple for his patience while attempting to teach us all some Bowling skills.

Thank you to Aaron & Sandy from โ€˜Wats Cookingโ€™, who brought their food van and cooked up a storm for our main meal.

Special thanks to Vet Nurse, Bri Ziegler, for organising the event, and using her culinary skills to dish up pre dinner appetisers & delectable deserts๏Š

There is currently a national shortage of tick anti-serum. This is due to a large surge in tick cases and product supply issues.
Our team is very concerned that if you bring your pet to us with tick poisoning we may not have enough anti-serum to get them out of trouble.
Please please make sure you have your petโ€™s tick prevention up to date. We stock a range of very effective products for a range of prices. If you have any concerns or need more information on tick prevention please, do not hesitate to call our team at Wooroolin Veterinary Services on 4164 2010 or Goomeri Veterinary Services on 4168 4064 or call in and see us.

Yes itโ€™s SNAKE SEASON!

Over the past few weeks we have had an unusually high number of pets with snake bites.

Please make sure you take precautions and seek help immediately if your dog or cat is showing signs.

These sign or symptoms can be quite variable ranging from a complete collapse thru generalised weakness and even showing spasms. Bleeding episodes may even be seen with envenomation.

Snakes are attracted to potential food and water sources and safe, quiet places to hide.
To reduce the risk of snakes finding your backyard or property attractive, keep your grass mown, clear up any rubbish piles and clear away objects where snakes can hide. Unwanted materials, especially timber and iron, which retain the heat, will attract snakes. Make sure that stockfeed is stored securely so that snakes are not attracted by mice.

If you are walking your dog close to bushland, especially near water during the summer months, please keep your dog on a lead and avoid long grassy areas.

โš ๏ธ WARNING โš ๏ธ

Queensland vets are calling on all pet owners to ensure their pet's tick prevention is up to date now more than ever, as life-saving tick antiserum faces a national shortage.

The primary treatment for pets suffering from tick paralysis is the antiserum, without it the disease is likely to be fatal.

The shortage has been caused by the flood in Northern NSW, making it near impossible to collect ticks for producing the antiserum. This has then been exacerbated by one of our worst tick seasons in recent years.

Over the past three months our Animal Emergency Service hospitals have seen 710 tick paralysis cases, an increase of 27% on last year's numbers.

Our Animal Emergency Service team have been working with suppliers to secure sufficient levels of serum. However, this will depend on whether the tick season continues to worsen.

Many Queensland veterinary clinics are running short and likely to run out. The situation is only expected to become worse, with suppliers predicting another batch of the serum won't be available until early December.

There are two things you can do to keep their pet's safe from ticks:
๐Ÿพ Keep your pet's tick prevention up to date. Even the most reliable prevention won't work if it's overdue! Not sure which tick prevention is best for your pet? Speak with your vet today.
๐Ÿพ Search your pet regularly for ticks.

Paralysis ticks are life-threatening if not treated. If you do find a tick, see your vet or closest emergency vet immediately.

WELCOME to DR BRITTEN LOCKIE who has recently joined our team at Wooroolin and Goomeri Veterinary Services.

After graduating from JCU, Britten followed his passion for Mixed Rural Practice, working in western Qld practices in Roma and Longreach. This is where he developed a strong interest in equine, bovine, and canine reproduction. He believes that reproduction is one of the key components to helping producers optimise their profitability & productivity.

Britten has spent time at various equine clinics, including overseas, developing his skills in fresh, chilled and frozen AI programs, and is keen to bring these skills to our clinics.

When off duty, Britten spends time with his partner Amelia, his 2 dogs and cat. He's also a keen footy player!

Britten is the โ€˜Young Memberโ€™ for the Equine Veterinary Association for our region, so will be kept busy helping with events for young Equine Vets.
