💞WELCOME TO QSAR, JATZ & POLLY 💞
Sometimes rescue isn’t about finding a dog a home straight away. Sometimes it’s about giving them a chance to fight for their future.
And that’s exactly where Jatz and Polly’s journey begins.
When this beautiful bonded pair arrived at QSAR, we knew they needed help. What we didn’t know was just how much lay ahead.
Jatz’s initial health checks revealed heartbreaking news... he tested positive for heartworm. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also found to have a Grade 2 heart murmur. What followed were weeks of vet appointments, x-rays, testing and careful planning to determine the safest path forward. Jatz was already showing symptoms, including a persistent cough and we needed answers before we could begin treatment.
Thankfully, after extensive investigations Jatz has now been cleared to begin his heartworm treatment. This week marks the start of the first stage of injections, beginning a long and challenging road to recovery. The treatment process will take many months, with regular veterinary visits and strict exercise restriction to give him the very best chance of beating this cruel disease.
Then there is sweet Polly.
During her health assessment, multiple cancerous lumps were discovered that need urgent surgical intervention. Due to the extent and complexity of the procedures required, Polly’s treatment will need to be performed over two separate surgeries to give her the safest possible recovery.
Polly has undergone scans to assess the extent of her condition and thankfully there was no evidence of widespread internal tumours. While that news gave us some much needed relief, the surgeries ahead remain significant. Polly requires a full mammary chain removal, removal of a mast cell tumour and routine desexing, all carefully staged under the guidance of our incredible veterinary team.
Through all of this, one thing has remained constant…
Their bond.
These two adore each other. 💕
Their wonderful foster carer has gone above and beyond to help them navigate this difficult time. While Jatz is on strict rest, he still gets to enjoy the world from his special four wheel scooter while Polly walks alongside him. Wherever one goes, the other follows. We are so grateful for their dedication 🙏🏻
Their connection is so special that we’ve even coordinated their treatment and surgery dates together wherever possible, allowing them to recover side by side and continue supporting one another through every vet visit, every procedure, and every step of healing.
It’s been an emotional few weeks of tests, diagnoses, decisions, and planning. But despite everything stacked against them, Jatz and Polly finally have something they didn’t have before:
Hope.
They are safe.
They are loved.
And they finally have a team fighting for them.

Unfortunately, giving this beautiful pair the chance they deserve comes with significant veterinary costs. Between vet consultations, diagnostics, scans, heartworm treatment, surgeries, medications and ongoing care, the expenses are already substantial and continue to grow.
