I'm The Dog Magician – I was so happy with this session!!

UPDATE - session went *brilliantly*, beautiful dogs, more tomorrow...

So, I'm off to see a couple of Shih Tzus this morning—a lot of barking in the house that we need to take care of—and one of them is becoming potentially aggressive with strangers. Unless there's intervention, incipient aggression in terrier types always escalates.

3 years ago, their mum reached out to me for some basic in-home puppy training. I wasn't well at the time and unfortunately wasn't able to help. So now I'm *really* happy to go this morning to these little buggers and help get things straightened out. Better late than never! 😄

Puppies are one of life's greatest joys, but they can be hard work if you don't know what you're doing. Puppy school is a complete waste of time. Don't do it.

What you need is a one on one trainer to teach you the basics that your puppy needs for a balanced happy life:

Rules,
boundaries,
limitations,
exercise,
discipline and then affection.
That's the formula for a happy dog and it starts early.

Today I had the delight of working with a 4 month old Labradoodle, Mike.

Mike was highly excitable, not well house trained and suffered separation anxiety, whining and barking. Also chewing everybody's hands.

Mike was instantly responsive to calm, confident, loving leadership. He's basically a perfect puppy who was just waiting for his master, his pack leader to come along and show him how to behave.

Mike had been to puppy school and his mum said it was a waste of time, which I've already told you, because it is.

So if you have a new puppy and you need some help, please reach out, don't wait until you're at your wit's end. Prevention is always better than cure. 🐾😊🐾

Bruce belongs to my niece and nephew – he is now five months old and his jumping up and mouthing has got a little extreme. I spent a couple of hours with Bruce, his mum and dad and the kids to show them how to stop him being big puppy crazy.

This little video was at the very end of the session--notice at the start how he goes to automatically chew on mum's hand and then changes his mind--he's smart and remembered not to do that. Clever boy!

Thinking of buying a puppy this Christmas? For God’s sake, do your research and make sure you buy from an ethical breeder. My friend Maria runs a brilliant website which only allows ethical breeders and rescues. Please go there. Do not buy from gumtree or Facebook marketplace or anywhere else where you’re likely to end up with a dog from a cruel and horrible puppy factory.

HOMEWORK

Margo and I had Billy over at school yesterday and we set him some homework. He now has to complete one viewing session of Cesar Millian's episodes and come back, then demonstrate he understands manners on leaving the house and walking on the lead.
