Training Tip Tuesday: #23 How Many Reps Does It Really Take?
Ever wondered how many repetitions it takes for your dog to truly learn a new behaviour?
Hint: it’s more than just a handful!
Here’s a quick breakdown:
🐶 20–50 reps: Your dog is learning the basics in a quiet space.
🐶 100–200 reps: The behaviour becomes smoother and more consistent.
🐶 300–500+ reps: Reliability starts to build as you practise in new places and around distractions.
🐶 500+ reps: Real-world reliability, practised across lots of environments.
Dogs don’t generalise automatically. They learn through repetition in different contexts.
So if your dog does it perfectly at home but struggles at the park, that’s completely normal.
Keep sessions short, fun, and frequent, and you’ll see steady progress. 🐾
