GLEN ALICE CAPERTEE VALLEY

The spiritual Capertee Valley was the birthplace for the women of the Waradjuri tribe, the local tribe of the first inhabitants of this land for over 50,000 years. With keeping wit

h this camp sites name, Yindyamarra (Yinjamurra phonetically) is part of the Waradjuri language meaning Respect and to take things slowly. Respect each other, respect wildlife and the culture of the first custodians of the land, the First Nations people. This special valley offers amazing views of the sandstone escarpments embracing the undulating fertile valley floor with water ways meandering through from the western cliff face to the east, gathering its water flow to the Hawkesbury Nepean Catchment, into the Sydney basin. This visit a must for the traveller wishing to experience this amazing canyon; the widest canyon in the world. The Capertee Valley watershed is the last of the eastern flow in this region. Experience pristine landscapes where you can camp with like minded souls in the Eurella propertys’ immense primitive campground, deep in the famous Capertee Valley with the extinct volcano deposit Tyan Peak to the north of your view.

‘Yindjamarra’ camping ground was the location for Pysfari Music Festival for five years and the natural features of the sandstone escarpments created a natural amphitheatre to absorb and embrace those who enjoyed these events. 5000 people camped on this site with portable facilities in place, proving you and your campers can easily find a place of privacy and solace, within this part of the Capertee Valley. Eurella, the host of this camping ground was established during the colonial settlement in the 1800s, by way of a grant to botanist Simeon Lord who agreed to swap his land in Sydney (now the site of the Botanical Gardens) to own any selection of country of his choice, west of the Great Divide. He plotted the boundaries of Eurella and to this day, this property remains in its entirety from his original design. Eurella operates a beef cattle, sheep meat and wool enterprise as well as breeding horses for the passion of the owners, Lyn and Bruce Richardson. The Richardson family purchased Eurella in 1964 and have operated the Eurella Australian Stock Horse Stud from the inception of the Society in 1971. The Richardsons operate the 3500 acre property with the help of a team of homebred working kelpies, one station hand and outside contractors. Yindjamarra camping ground is located in the western end of Eurella in its own private valley, assuring peace and tranquillity away from the busy operation, yet the opportunity is there to experience the day to day activities if the campers so wish to learn more about living on the land. Farm experiences may be available, depending on the season and the current management practises at the time of your visit.

**Please enquire with your desires via email prior to your visit so arrangements may be organised to meet your wishes. A further cost will be charged depending on the level of involvement on the property, to be negotiated. There are amazing bush fire trails at the camping ground, escarpments and caves within Eurellas’ boundaries for the campers to enjoy bush walks, bird watching, canyoning and rock climbing. Yindyamarra is the perfect location for photography, meditation, song writing and all forms of creative past times such as painting. Pets are welcome as long as they are controlled and do not interfere with other campers or stock and wildlife on the property. There is a semi permanent creek through Eurella, called the Nile Creek and the gully on the camp ground flows in times of good rain fall so be careful not to camp in the creek bed! Be well away from others or in a group campsite. We only ask that you respect the other campers in keeping with the name of the grounds, Yindyamarra. No mobile service available on the camp ground however there is 4 G in the area nearby. This was a welcomed feature for those wishing to have a total respite from the rigours of the modern world. In keeping with the name of the camp ground, no motor bikes, four wheel drives or other mechanically propelled vehicles are permitted on the fire trails or the surrounding area. Please respect others peace and quiet. No shooting or four wheel driving around the property will be permitted. Once camped, throw away those keys! The site is entirely primitive, in keeping with the council requirements. The campers are expected to come prepared with their own water supply, shower and toilet facilities. A large communal Fire Pit is located in the camp grounds plus various small fire sites are present which can be used, depending on the fire season. Hot showers are available at the Glen Davis Community Park and also town water can be purchased at Glen Davis from the public hydrant. The need of a chemical toilet can be arranged by the owners and bush shower is available on request which will be set up in the projection shed on site, for some privacy in a unisex arrangement for campers to manage. There are two National Parks nearby in the Capertee Valley for you to experience on a day trip plus Dunns Swamp nearby. Wollomi National Park featuring the Wollomi Pine surrounds Eurella on all sides. Access to the park is in nearby Glen Davis. Capertee National Park is located off Port Macquarie Road 20 kms to the west of Glen Alice. Enjoy Yindyamarra and leave the camp grounds both revived and relaxed, ready for your onward journey.
