I know we joke about them being freeloaders, but honestly… they’re a big part of why I keep pushing through the hard days.

When work gets stressful, life gets busy, and everything feels a bit overwhelming, there’s something comforting about coming home to a room full of reptiles that have absolutely no idea what rent, electricity bills, or the cost of living crisis is 😂

They’re just sitting there waiting for dinner, a clean enclosure, and their favourite warm spot.

So if you’re feeling burnt out, this is your reminder that there’s probably a tiny freeloading animal somewhere relying on you to keep showing up.

And if not… borrow one of mine. I have plenty 🫶🏽

We’ve spent weeks talking about red flags…

So here’s a reminder that there are far more amazing reptile keepers in this hobby than bad ones.

The educators.
The mentors.
The people who answer beginner questions for the hundredth time.
The people who take the time to explain rather than judge.
The people who celebrate each other’s wins.
The people who genuinely care about both the animals and the people behind them.

Every one of us started somewhere. None of us were born knowing how to identify a snake, set up an enclosure, or understand reptile behaviour. Most of what we know today came from someone who was willing to share their knowledge and help us learn.

So let’s hear it…

What reptile keeper green flag would you add to the list?👇

Sometimes we get so caught up worrying about what we’re doing wrong that we forget to acknowledge everything we’re doing right.

But the truth is, every reptile keeper has made mistakes. Every experienced keeper started somewhere. What matters isn’t being perfect. What matters is showing up every day, continuing to learn, and always striving to do better for the animals in our care.

So if you needed a little reminder today, choose a snake and read the message it has for you.

🐍 1. Your reptiles may not say thank you, but they feel your dedication every day.
🐍 2. Your reptiles don’t remember your mistakes, only your care.
🐍 3. You deserve the same patience you give your reptiles.
🐍 4. Your passion inspires more people than you realise.
🐍 5. The reptile community is better because you’re part of it.

And remember…

Your reptiles don’t need a perfect keeper.
They just need someone who cares enough to keep learning.

I don’t need everyone to love reptiles but I just hope more people take a moment to understand them 🖤

Most fear comes from misunderstanding. The more we learn, the more we realise these animals aren’t villains, monsters, or mindless creatures. They’re simply animals doing exactly what nature designed them to do.

That’s why education will always matter more to me than convincing people to “like” reptiles.

Because fear ends where knowledge starts 🦋

Not every green flag is flashy.

Sometimes it’s the keeper who quietly quarantines every new arrival.
The one who upgrades their husbandry when new evidence comes out.
The one who understands that simple setups can still be excellent setups.
The one who values animal welfare over ego.

Good reptile keeping isn’t about having the biggest collection, the rarest morphs, or the fanciest enclosures. It’s about putting the animals first, staying teachable, and doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.

Tag a reptile keeper who deserves a green flag 👇💚

Sorry for waking you from your beauty slumber my guy 🤍

Zoro - Pygmy Bearded dragon 🐉

He’s lived well past his life expectancy 😆😆 and he’s the typical old man of the street lol! He’s always watching what everyone else is doing. All the kids love this guy and he’s an amazing pet.

We’re so lucky to have him in the family!!

People reveal who they are when they’re faced with something they don’t understand.

Some choose fear, some choose cruelty, and some choose to judge without ever taking the time to learn.

But others choose curiosity. They ask questions. They seek knowledge. They challenge their own misconceptions and learn to respect animals that most people overlook.

Maybe that’s why reptiles have taught me so much about people…?

A snake or any other reptile for that matter doesn’t care how educated you are, how much money you make or how many followers you have. It only knows whether your hands are gentle, whether your care is consistent and whether you choose respect every single time.

Kindness is easy when something is cute and patience is easy when something loves you back. But choosing understanding over judgement? That says everything.

At the end of the day, our reptiles don’t care about our status, our achievements, or what we own. They only know the care we provide and the respect we show them.

And the people who choose understanding over fear will always be my kind of people 🖤

Come with me while I do the weekly feed run for some of our carpet pythons 🐍🍽️

One of my favourite parts of reptile keeping is watching each snake’s personality come out at feeding time. Some launch out of nowhere, some take their time, and some make me question whether they even know food exists 😂

Which snake would you be: the instant striker or the one that needs a minute? Let me know in the comments 👇🏽
