We’re excited to welcome Dr. Tanya to the Gladstone Vet team! With her wealth of experience and warm, compassionate approach, she’s a fantastic addition to our clinic. We can’t wait for you and your furry family members to meet her soon. Learn more about Dr. Tanya below ⬇️

💙 Where did you study veterinary medicine?
I studied at Onderstepoort in South Africa and graduated in 2002.

💙 Where has your veterinary career taken you?
After graduating, I moved to the UK and spent almost four years working in small animal practice and emergency medicine. That’s also where I met my husband! We later returned to South Africa and bought a small animal practice in the Western Cape, which we ran for 16 years.

💙 Have you done any further study?
Yes! In 2020, I completed a year-long program through the Chi University in Florida and earned a diploma in Veterinary Acupuncture.

💙 What brought you to Gladstone?
After spending three and a half years working in New Zealand, my family and I made the move to Gladstone, and we’re so happy to be here!

💙 What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I’m not at the clinic or with my family, I love swimming, cycling, running, and reading. I also enjoy horse riding whenever I get the chance.

Arthritis can worsen in the colder months for your pet. ❄️
While your pet won’t necessarily limp or yelp if they are in pain, here are some signs we recommend you watch out for:

- If they seem hesitant to jump into the car, up onto furniture, or use stairs. For cats, they might be reluctant to climb the fence or trees.
- If they lower their body slowly when going to lie down, then suddenly fall in a heap.
- If they are a bit slow to get going after getting up.
- If they are slowing down on walks or are reluctant to walk as far as they normally do.
- Are exhibiting behavioural changes, such as being a bit grumpier than usual.
- If cats are no longer using the litter box properly (especially if it has high sides).

Give us a call if you notice any of these symptoms in your pets and would like to book a check-up

As we head into the cooler months, it's essential to ensure your pets stay happy and healthy all winter long. Here are our top winter care tips:

❄️ Warm bedding: Provide cozy and insulated bedding to keep your pets comfortable.
❄️ Indoor comfort: Limit outdoor time during extreme cold and ensure they have a warm indoor space.
❄️ Nutrition: Maintain a balanced diet to support their immune system.
❄️ Regular check-ups: Schedule a winter wellness exam to catch any seasonal health issues early.
❄️ Parasite prevention: Continue flea and tick prevention, as these pests can still be active.

For more information, read the blog on our website ➡️ Keep Your Pet Healthy This Winter

Stay warm and make sure to give your pets some extra love this winter! 🐶🐱
