Banjo - 20 Yr Old Unbroke Stallion
This is a controversial training scenario as Banjo has never had his teeth checked nor had his hooves trimmed.
He has spent his life unhandled, in a paddock with two geldings. The owner could rub his neck and occasionally, get a rope halter on him but he could never be led and had no other training.
Luckily, his hooves have always chipped off into a good natural shape but honestly, I think he is a miracle horse being still alive given he has never had his teeth done. He has one swollen jaw which would be dental related for sure.
He gets well fed and has had good human exposure but as green as they come.
He is highly reactive, especially around the head, which I believe, is made worse by his dental condition.
My job over the next weeks, is to get Banjo handled sufficiently so the Vet can come in and work on his teeth and possibly, geld him. Then, prepare him for transporting to Queensland.
Whilst this is a seemingly insignificant part of training, I put this clip up as I thought it might be interesting for those who have sensitive horses. The lesson here, is not to be too quiet with your horse and other insights.
Of course, there maybe some who criticise this snippet but hopefully, all can understand that I wish I could take it slower but this needs to progress quickly for his health.
This clip was a part of his second training session. Unfortunately, the first training session wasn’t recorded. A pity as he was taught to face up and accept the halter, leading and moving forward.
I’ll try to capture more footage and post some of this journey.
Anyway, he is progressing well and i am optimistic about his future health and well-being.
