Various tie up options: Blocker tie ring for learning; good old baling twine for if I have to leave them on their own temporarily; and the figure 8 for tying solid, but can also rig it so that it can easily be released under pressure.

Leading a young c**t from another horse. The lead rope goes in front of the chest of the horse I'm riding (through a large ring on a swivel clipped to the breastplate) then to my rein hand which means my riding horse is the one doing the leading. Once they have the idea, the lead rope can pass through the cheek of the young horse's halter, but it doesn't need to. I broke in hundreds of horses using this technique years ago but went away from doing it when I got busy and felt like I didn't have time, and gained a little more experience... still a useful technique though if you have a handy lead horse available.

Not sure if this variation on a latigo cinch has a name but I'm thankful that someone I was teaching to break in horses 20 years ago taught it to me- I've used it ever since on the breaking in sircingle. Does up smoother one hand.

Nice young horse wearing a device I made 20 years ago with a pulley on the rope under the bit. It is all rotten leather now held together with baling twine but the design is such that nothing seems to panic and break it. I copied it off something Steve Brady had at a week long breaking in school of his that I attended.
