🐾 It’s not always easy, but it’s ALWAYS worth it 🐾

Today was wet. I mean, that sticky, ongoing, salty, sandy, gross, drizzly rainy weather that turns up and sets up camp in the one spot on the coast for the entire day.
It’s not heavy enough rain to have your wipers on nonstop, but it’s too heavy to have your wipers on intermittent: you know, THAT kind of wet.
So, obviously it was not an easy day for the humans with just human skin & no insulating dog fur between the sand & the breeze & the rain. Also, way too wet for nice footage (sorry about that).

But wait, I should mention the dogs… They had a SUPERB TIME. They have fur & they didn’t care! They ran and played & wrestled & ran & raced & did some drills & ran & tired themselves out beautifully, as a big old gang of misfits. (Some of them are pictured in the rain)

Anyway, I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again: it’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.

• THE STORY OF CA •

Almost 9 years ago CA kicked off, out of my personal obsession & unwavering belief in the benefits of trail running with dogs.

But before it started, I used to get a few days off from my (then) job, and spend them cramming my dogs & my friends’ dogs into my “normal person” sedan, just to spend the day running out in the bush with them. I did this obsessively, for years, and YES: everyone was convinced I was crazy.

One day, a friend pointed out that this madness I was offering my circle of mates would make an amazing new style of business, not only because I lived & breathed it, but because it’s a great alternative for people that needed more than just the usual suburban dog walking service. There were no ‘dog adventure services’ around for dogs back then, so I hadn’t even considered it was something that could be a job, or a business.
So, in I jumped.

Almost 9 years later, here we are.
It worked.
My friend was right.
Today, CA still has many of the same clients as we did back on day one.
Some are even sending their second (or third) dog in 9 years, which is absolutely brilliant.

I love this so much: I love being a dog handler, I love seeing dogs genuinely thriving & happy, I love the beautiful CA community of dog owners, & I love everything Mother Nature offers day to day.

2017 started the very best thing in my world, & I can’t wait for the rest of it in the future. If I could go back and chat to 2017 me, I’d tell her to go for it with every cell of energy she has, because it will pay off & quite literally, change her life.

Now in 2026, I wish time would slow down, because I feel the need to cram more awesome stuff into each day of this journey of life.
And I wish I started CA earlier, because I will never ever get enough. 💚

TORQUAY/MT DUNEED: YOU’RE UP.

We have had a special Torquay Adventurer honourably retire, and now have a space for a new weekly recruit, in the Torquay or Mt Duneed region.
If you have a young dog that needs exposure & healthy interactions, an active dog, a dog that needs more during the week, or a dog that is suffering because you’re simply too time-poor: let’s see if CA is the right fit for you.

We have been taking dogs trail running on Epic Outdoor Adventures for almost 9 years around here, and we have been proud to have had so many adventurers stay for the long term until retirement age, because it has become an integral part of their fulfilled canine lives.

5 year old male - gorgeous poodle x schnauzer mix - desexed and up to date with vaccinations and preventatives. He is a candidate to live another 10-15 years with good health, good nutrition & some luck.
He is about to go in for a much needed deep dental surgery, so he will go to his new home in tip-top shape, with all vet needs met.

This is a sensitive situation: his owner could no longer care for him: he was surrendered privately from a long-standing client of CA due to ailing health.

His new house will tick these boxes, understanding the following:
- active owner/family (a solid walk per day, plus stimulation/extra-curricular outings. He thrives with puzzles, licking mats, chewing options)
- familiar with dogs (not first time owners)
- have another dog AND/OR plenty of people time: he loves respectful children & all adults. He will not adjust well to being left alone every day. He is fine left home with another dog, if well catered for with walks & enrichment
- not a backyard dog, he is a family member
- Thrives within daily process, familiarity & healthy repetition
- he requires a basic comfort groom every 12 weeks (he has a soft-wirey coat. He does not shed, but has an undercoat & minimal dander)
- gentle brushing to avoid knots and tangles
- upkeep of his veterinary needs (annual vaccinations & dental assessment, regular flea/worm/tick preventitive)
- absolutely NO crate or pen for him. He has valid sensitivities around both.

He is a very manageable 10kg size and won’t pull anyone over on walks. He is a very intelligent dog, and learns quickly. He is super social, loves playing with others, is a pacifist and reads other dogs well.

He currently has his own spot on the couch, and sleeps under a human bed by choice. He will snuggle when cold, and sleeps soundly at night.
He is not a big barker, and is not destructive.
If he is bored or not walked, he may steal a sock or item around the house (an habitual attention-seeking behaviour, and will happily swap his stolen treasure for a dog toy. It’s a good indicator of him needing a walk or some stimulation).
He could thrive with a family that camps/caravans and loves weekend activities. He travels well, walks well, is fine at markets, cafes & shops, and loves visits/sleepovers/cuddles with other people/dogs too. He could easily be a great runner’s dog.
He has good recall, with an investigative, adventurous streak.

He is NOT suitable with cats.

I will continue to take him out with Canine Adventuretime one day per week at no charge to the new family.
I must remain in his life, and on his microchip as the secondary contact.
I will continue to update the previous owner on him, as he was a tremendously difficult surrender for her and she thrives on being updated about her beloved little man.

Note: I have no intention to micromanage his new home or family. I am committed to being a good resource for them, and I am also happy to dogsit him when needed.

As I said this is very sensitive and I am entrusting the CA community with this post being treated as such.

He is a gorgeous little companion, and he just needs the right nurturing home. He would be perfect for a family who has recently entertained the thought of adopting another dog after grieving a loss.

Hello from the world of Canine Adventuretime!

We currently have a couple of rare opportunities for new dogs to join Canine Adventuretime for weekly/fortnightly ongoing adventures.
Dogs must be
- desexed/neutured once over the age of 1 year
- up to date with C5 vaccinations (or titre testing)
- on a strict parasite prevention program at home (flea-tick-worm)
- moderately social & mild mannered with dogs (perfect is not expected!)
- reasonably fit & healthy to exercise
- reasonably reliable recall
- good in transit (no car sickness)
- generally manageable and tactile

🐾 MOMENT FOR THE ELITISTS 🐾

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again: dogs are some of the most racist creatures on the planet.
Just ask any dog owner “who is your dog racist against?” and there’ll ALWAYS be an answer.

My friends pictured are pretty open about their elitist ideologies… yep: the monochromes are some of the worst (along with Cavoodles & Labs).

They hang out together almost exclusively: herding, playing, racing, running & dOiNg ThEiR jOb.

And you know what? I love it.
They’re getting to “Dog”, and that’s essential for their happiness & well-being.
It’s what Canine Adventuretime is all about.

I love this CA life.
Everything about it (even the copious amounts of faecal matter).
You couldn’t make me swap with you for a million bucks. 💚

🐾 REAL DOG ADVENTURES 🐾

Every single time we head out, we prioritise keeping the dogs engaged, stimulated, exercised (that’s the running part), & quite frankly “well adventured”.

Not just wandering, not just meandering aimlessly: the focus is always on engaging adventures where the dogs have responsibilities, expectations & an intentional environment where they feel they can freely “dog together” to their best abilities.

There’s a LOT more to it than just setting a bunch of dogs free to run, although they always feel a sense of freedom they so dearly love.

We’ve been at this a long time, & loving every single adventure along the way… even the ones like today when the weather was not particularly pleasant!

They have an entire empty beach to run around on… but sometimes they just run together in their perfect friendship bubble.

It’s pure delight to witness.
