What does a 4m locum stint look like at Katherine Vets?

Pure magic ✨ Hard work 💪 and incredible hospitality 🫶

Days away preg testing or bull testing at stations across the NT from Kununurra to the Barkly. 10,000 cows preg tested (yep manually 💪😅), with 1000 being the marker of a good day in the yards!
Where 4hrs travel is “just down the road” and a 2hr flight is much preferred over a 7hr drive, especially if there’s gates!

And in between the station work?
Small animal and horse days at the clinic 🐴🐶,
Fishing on the Vic river 🎣🐊Swimming at Edith falls and early morning runs around the gorge.

But the highlight…
Flying to the Torres Strait with the original “flying vet” and “legend” Pete to fly around the islands in their plane desexing cats and dogs. 🏝️🐕✂️🛩️

I can’t thank the Trembath and Katherine vet family enough for an amazing 4 months, although a steep learning curve it has certainly exceeded any adventure I had in mind!
….And for also being crazy enough to let me fly their planes 😬😅

See you next year Katherine!🧡

‼️Lockyer Livestock Vets is closing the doors‼️

🚨Lockyer Livestock Vets last day of trading will be Weds 21st August 2024🚨

With my kids grown up, a love for flying machines 🚁🛩️ and the desire to keep learning new skills, I have made the tough decision to close Lockyer Livestock Vets. Instead I will be taking my veterinary services to explore the remote top end.

In the words of Helen Keller:
“Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all”

I have loved the past 14 years in the Valley and thank from the bottom of my heart all the clients, UQ vet students and of course the incredible past and present LLVet employees.

You have all taught me so much ❤️

So what does this mean for you?
Fortunately for you there are many other great veterinary services available in the area:

Livestock
* UQ Production Animals will still offer a 24/7 livestock service.
Equine
* 5 Starr Equine Vets
* West Vets
* Exclusively Equine
Small animals
* Gatton Vets
* Laidley Vets
* Marburg Vets
* West Vets

For final appointments, prescriptions or other enquires please call during office hours.
**For clinical record requests please email [email protected] and we can forward to your vet of choice.**

We had a case of cuteness overload yesterday with these beautiful babies!!

😍 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛️

We had the pleasure of vaccinating and microchiping this adorable litter yesterday!! They were so sweet that we all wanted to take one home 🥰

Did you know that recently the veterinary industry experienced an Australia wide shortage on cat vaccines!! 😲

Rest assure we are happy to say we are now fully stocked and ready to see your fur babies!!

Dont forget we also offer home visits!!! 🏡

Earlier this year Dot the pony🐴 stayed with us for a bit over a week to have AW5 treatment on her nodular sarcoids. This chemotherapy treatment eats out the cancerous cells of the sarcoid and leaves healthy tissue to come back together. She was the most pleasant patient to have with us for her time and over the last few months of regular check-ins we have seen the sarcoid fall off and now become a small scar. 🐎
If you have noticed any lumps and bumps on your horse’s skin call our lovely staff to organise an appointment today.

✂️🪵🐕 How????

🎥 surgery video in comments

Lucy the very cute 3 month old Kelpie came in on Friday because the owners 4yo son thought she had eaten some plastic “treasure” 🏅🪙.
Something hard was felt it her lower abdomen although it was somewhat confusing as the ultrasound and X-rays did not look like a classic small intestinal obstruction. 🤔
✂️ Surgery gave us the answer to what but still no idea on how?? Or why?? 🤷‍♀️
🐶 After removal of the 18cm stick from her stomach Lucy went home the next day, and is back to being a typical kelpie puppy 🤎🐕

🐶🙋‍♀️ Yes Vet’s dogs also go rogue sometimes 🤦‍♀️
🩺Dr Elsa’s dog “Bean” has been a regular guest at the surgery the past couple of weeks as a support friend for Elsa’s other dog “Django”. Django’s anxiety had been at an all time high since moving house. So instead of infuriating her new neighbours Elsa brought them to work and came up with an anxiety treatment plan for Django.
💊 Needing a quick fix he was started on Clonidine a fast acting anti anxiety medication. Which worked so well he was able to stay home unattended 😊
Beans upset that only Django was getting the liver flavoured tablets saw an opportunity when Elsa left the tablets on the side to have an after work shower. 🙈

Back to work it was for a apomorphine induced (tablet coloured) vomit 🤮 and charcoal drench. Bean then spent the night at home on fluids with the cat for company 😵‍💫

This kitty gave us a heart attack this morning when he was rushed in bleeding and foaming from the mouth. As it turns out he just takes his pest control seriously and got a grasshopper leg stuck in the roof of his mouth!
Thanks to Dr Mia he is now home and back to work minus the grasshopper leg!
