Avian Wellness Month at Galston Veterinary Clinic (October) 🐦🦆🦜🐓🪿

Birds are masters of disguise. 🥸🦜They hide signs of illness until they are very sick. Dr Kathy & Dr Valerie have seen several birds this year who presented 'well' but when they had their blood tested, it was found that they had were actually quite unwell. 🤒🐦😟Blood tests can allow us to identify a problem before it becomes serious.

Our Wellness Month aims to target any of our 'healthy' birds coming in for a complete health check, full blood screen and faecal test all at a discounted package price. 🩺💉🩸💩 Not only do they get 25% off the usual cost 💸, your pet will also get a small goody bag to go home with. We plan to utilise this month to aid our regular clients in gaining a baseline health profile of their feathered friends, improving proactive monitoring of any ongoing disease or even detecting any potentially new underlying illnesses. 🦜🐓🦆🐦

You might know that ducks can get botulism but you may not know they can get treated if they are presented early enough to an avian veterinarian.

Meet Rain and Puddles, 🦆 🦆 who got their bills into something they should not have. With a very dedicated owner the girls spent a few days in intensive care on intravenous fluids and other supportive care. 👩🏼‍⚕️ They have made a full recovery and are now home trying to keep out of trouble. 😃🩺

6 months ago Georgie was a very unwell little budgie. She needed to have a big surgery for a large hernia and 3 rotten eggs stuck in her uterus. Dr Kathy performed a Salpingectomy (removed her uterus) and hernia repair. She is so happy with life now. 💚💛

Terri has been a long term patient of Dr Kathy. Terri was part of a high school project of chick hatching who was lucky enough to be adopted by her loving family once it was completed 🥚🐣🐥🐔
Terri continues to live the high life with all the creature comforts that a chicken could imagine.

Can anyone guess her age?
Hint: Her owner finished highschool some time ago

Zeus had a very, very long beak! But doesn’t he look handsome after his visit with Dr Kathy who sculptured his beak back to a normal shape.
Birds should NOT need a beak trim, there is a MEDICAL PROBLEM if your bird has an overgrown beak They will need a veterinary examination and blood test to investigate the underlying illness.
The long beak can be managed whilst we are treating the cause of the medical condition.
