This past weekend I had the privilege of presenting “The Business of Hoof Care” at the ACEHP 20 Year Anniversary Conference - The Alchemy of Hoof Care in Kenilworth, QLD.

I was so honoured to be invited to speak alongside people like Carol Layton, Lindsey Field, Professor Christopher Pollitt, and so many other incredible professionals in the hoof care world. It was honestly a bit surreal!

It was such a beautiful weekend of learning, connection, conversation, and community. I got to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and spend time with people who care deeply about horses, hoof care and continuing to grow as professionals.

A huge thank you to Jen and Jeremy, the heads of ACEHP, for their generosity, kindness, hospitality, and for creating such a welcoming space. And a big thank you to Pauline, our MC, who did an amazing job keeping everything running smoothly and on track.

Also, I absolutely need to mention the catering, because it was AMAZING.

Presenting on the business side of hoof care is something I am so deeply passionate about. Being good at the hoof care bit is only one part of building a sustainable career.

We also need systems, boundaries, financial clarity, confidence, and a business that actually supports the life we want to live.

I’m so grateful I got to share that message with such a thoughtful and engaged room.

Thank you ACEHP for having me. What a special weekend.

I’m still on a high after this past weekend’s Glue with Confidence clinic.

Being back at Yarck, where my professional hoof care career truly began, was something really special. Returning to my roots in that way, while also getting to connect with a room full of committed, capable hoof care professionals, just filled my heart.

Thank you to Nicky and Andrew for hosting. Having access to the amazing facilities at The Barefoot Blacksmith made the whole clinic run so smoothly, and it was wonderful to work on the teaching horses there - they know their job well!

I was so proud of my colleagues who attended the clinic. The work they produced on both the cadavers and the live horses was excellent. Their knowledge base was so strong that we could go deep without needing to water down technical concepts, and when it came time to work on the live horses, they absolutely stepped up.

One of the standout moments for me was watching the two groups working through their plans together on the live horses. They were making sharp observations, helping each other with documentation and good quality hoof photos, working diligently to a high standard on every hoof, and genuinely cheering each other on. That collaborative, high-standard, horse-first energy is exactly what we hoped the spirit of this clinic would be.

I also loved teaching alongside Firenza Park Equine Services with Kathryn Christieson. We work so well together, and even with a fairly similar educational background, we still had some fantastic discussions about the different ways we approach things and achieve great results. It made for such a rich learning environment. Open, honest, thoughtful, and completely non-judgemental.

And I have to say, the clinic would not have run as smoothly or on time as it did without Kat, and without the professionalism of the students. Everyone showed up ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to make the most of the weekend.
Most importantly, the horses really loved what the students did with the glue-on shoes. And that, of course, is what it’s all about.

If you missed this one, you missed something pretty special. If you’re reading this wishing you’d been there, keep an eye out - because I have a feeling people are already going to be asking when the next one is.
