Come join the Nara Equine Team in Tasmania as an equine assistant.
About Us:
• A team of 1 full time and 1 part time vet plus access to equine surgical and medicine specialists from the mainland
• 1 other training veterinary nurse and 2 handlers
• Ambulatory and recently built equine facilities that are growing
• Minor and major surgery capabilities
• Portable x-ray, ultrasound and endoscope.
Multiple reproduction focuses
• An interesting mix of performance horses including racehorses, showjumpers and dressage along with seniors, pleasure horses and broodmares.
• Our vets are always keen to teach and share knowledge.
About the role:
• Part time to full time equine veterinary assistant, 3-4 days a week as required.
• Some driving involved with a purpose built equine crush/trailer, allows the vets time to type up visit note
• Assist vets with a variety of appointments, including trot ups and lunging, radiography, ultrasoundograhy, endoscopy, and safely restrain horses for procedures.
• Surgical nursing, field anaesthesia and recovering patients, packing and sterilizing equipment, maintain clean stables/barn.
• Monitoring and treatment of hospitalised patients by taking and recording TPR and administering IV /IM/oral/eye medications as required.
• Emergency triage and critical care including new born foals
• Physical outdoor position
About you:
Experienced horse person who can demonstrate safe working techniques specific to horses
• Keen to learn and develop new skills with a teachable attitude
• Highly motivated, reliable and flexible
• Cert IV in vet nursing an advantage but not essential
• confident around horses and other large animals a must
• Confident to give IM/IV /oral medications or a keen willingness to learn.
• Great team fit and comfortable working on your own
Excellent communication skills and great attention to detail in record keeping and documentation
• Manual drivers licence
• References and referees to be provided
