✨ Big news from our friends at Kalmpets! ✨

We’re excited to share this informative article on chemical castration for male dogs — a non-surgical, reversible option that can be a great alternative or interim step before traditional neutering. This approach uses a small implant ( Suprelorin®) placed under the skin to temporarily suppress fertility and testosterone for either 6 or 12 months, without the need for surgery.

💡 Why this matters:
🐾 Helps manage testosterone-influenced behaviours (e.g., mounting, inter male dog tension)
🐾 Avoids surgical anaesthesia
🐾 Reversible — fertility and hormones return once the implant wears off
🐾 You can choose a 6 month or 12 month implant based on your goals and timing.

📍 And great news — Kudah Vet in Forrestdale stocks both 6 month and 12 month chemical castration options and can help you decide what’s right for your dog.

👉 Book a consult to discuss this option further and tailor a plan for your pet’s health and behaviour!

🐾 New research is reshaping how we think about behaviour cases, and it’s big.
Many families feel stuck choosing between “wait and see” or committing to surgical castration when behaviour concerns arise. A new study offers another path: chemical castration as a reversible, low‑risk trial run.

I’ve broken down what the research actually shows, how it can guide decision‑making, and why this option may help vets and families better understand what’s driving a dog’s behaviour.

If you’re navigating behaviour challenges or supporting clients through them, this one’s worth a read.

Kudah Veterinary Services are excited to announce our 2025 Artificial Insemination statistics.
With the increased popularity of, and continued training in, TCI (transcervical insemination), our success rates have continued to rise—improving from an already impressive 85% to an outstanding 93% pregnancy success rate for greyhounds in 2025.

Across all breeds, we are proud to maintain an overall insemination success rate of 80%, achieved through our commitment to best-practice reproductive management and working with breed-specific, health-tested animals for reproductive inseminations.

We are extremely proud of these results and look forward to continuing to provide leading reproductive care for all breeds and their breeders in 2026 and beyond.

☀️ Summer is here, and while we love the sunshine, the warmer weather can be tough on our furry friends.

Keeping your pet safe and comfortable in the heat is all about a few simple but important habits:

💧 Hydration is key - Always make sure your pet has access to fresh, cool water. Try adding ice cubes or offering frozen treats to help them stay refreshed.

🐾 Avoid hot pavements and midday walks - If the ground is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws! Walk early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.

🚗 Never leave pets in cars - Even for a few minutes, the temperature inside a car can skyrocket, putting your pet’s life at risk.

🌴 Provide shade and cool resting spots - Whether you’re at home or out and about, make sure your pet can escape the sun and stay comfortable.

With a little extra care, your pets can enjoy a safe, happy, and fun-filled summer! ❤️
