Meet Yuki 🌻 she recently recovered from having bilateral pinnectomy surgery
This surgery was needed due to severe sun damage changes affecting both ear pinnae. Unfortunately, white and light coloured cats are especially prone to developing sun related skin disease, particularly on areas with little pigment or fur coverage such as ears and nose.
Prolonged UV exposure can lead to Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) (a common and potentially invasive skin cancer in cats)
Early signs may include:
• Redness or crusting on the ear tips
• Scabs that don’t heal
• Ulceration or bleeding
• Changes to the nose or eyelids
A bilateral pinnectomy (removal of the ear flaps) is often performed to remove diseased tissue and improve comfort and quality of life. Cats generally adapt incredibly well after surgery and continue to live happy, normal lives ✨
☀️Prevention Tips:
• Keep white/light coloured cats indoors during peak UV hours
• Use pet safe sun protection where recommended
• Have any persistent skin changes checked early
Early detection makes a huge difference 🐾
