Teaching a horse to lay down. Session 1.
No halter. No rope. Complete liberty.

The lay down requires the horse to choose
to be vulnerable — on the ground, in front of you.
You can’t force that.

Session 1: one knee down.
That’s everything.

I only started riding in 2020.

Back then, I didn’t have a car…
so I used to walk 1 hour to the stables —
and 1 hour back home —
just to take a 30-minute riding lesson.

And honestly?
I didn’t learn much.

I still didn’t know how to put a saddle on properly.
I was just trying to figure things out, step by step, doing my best with what I had.

No shortcuts.
No advantages.
Just determination and a dream I didn’t want to let go of. 🤍

Funny to think where that road has led me today. 🐎✨

Before horses, my life looked completely different.

I started out in computer science — working behind a screen, following a path that felt logical… but not fully mine.

At the same time, something else was growing in parallel.
I was training dogs.

Helping owners understand their dogs, fix behavioral issues, build trust, and create better communication.
That’s where I really discovered what I loved:
not just training animals — but helping humans understand them.

It was never just about obedience.
It was about connection.

Looking back now, I realise that chapter taught me everything I use today… just with different animals. 🐎🤍

I was born allergic to horses.

Since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated by them.
I dreamed of riding, working with them, being close to them…

But every time I tried, my body reminded me otherwise.
Allergies, reactions — it was always the same.

I loved watching horse shows, especially at the circus.
The connection, the liberty work, the freedom… it inspired me deeply.

But ironically, I could never stay.
I always had to leave halfway through because my allergies were too strong.

It’s crazy how life works sometimes —
being drawn to something you’re physically not supposed to be around.

And yet… here I am today. 🤍

Right now I’m working with three very different horses, each with their own story and challenges.

• 17-year-old mare
Easy to ride… but more complicated on the ground.
She used to push people around and refused to load into the trailer.
After just one week, the loading issue is already solved —
and now I’m working on teaching her to come to us more willingly and respectfully.

• Barrel racing mare
Super athletic, but mentally still “in the race.”
She resists the bit a lot and always wants to go faster.
The goal here is softness, relaxation, and teaching her that speed isn’t the answer to everything.

• Thoroughbred gelding
A cool, honest horse overall —
he just needs to learn how to slow down and stay mentally quiet, especially at the canter.

Three horses.
Three minds.
Three completely different approaches.

Follow along to see how their progress unfolds week by week. 🤠✨

Spotted this little Corella tangled up in wires…
panicked, stuck, and completely helpless.

I took my time, stayed calm, and slowly worked him free.
And once he realised he was safe…

He flew off.
Strong. Free. Exactly where he belongs. 🕊️✨

Moments like this remind me how fragile wildlife can be —
and how powerful a small act of help can feel. 🤍

Always look up… you never know who might need you.

Just a casual trip to Woolworths in Brisbane…
with Skye on my shoulder. 😅🛒

She’s calm, curious, and taking it all in like a pro.
Guess she’s getting used to city life already. 🏙️🕊️

Would you take your bird grocery shopping? 😄

Taking things one step at a time.

Today, I started teaching her how to step onto my finger.
No forcing.
No grabbing.
Just patience, repetition, and letting her choose.

She’s still learning, still gaining confidence —
and every small step forward matters. 🤍

Training isn’t about control.
It’s about trust, timing, and respecting where the animal is at.

Little by little, she’s getting there. 🕊️✨

One of her wings seems a little damaged,
so she can’t fly perfectly yet.

That means we’re taking things slowly.
No pressure. No rushing.

Instead, I’ve started teaching her something simple —
coming onto my hand.
Step by step, at her pace, building confidence before anything else. 🤍

Sometimes training isn’t about doing more…
it’s about adapting to what the animal needs in that moment.

Small progress still matters.
And trust always comes first. 🕊️✨

This is Skye.
She’s an Indian Ringneck — and yes… she has a bit of red on her feathers 😅🍓

Why?
Because she loves strawberries. A little too much.

Still learning, still growing, still building trust every day.
Small moments like these make the journey even more special. 🤍

Would you have guessed it was strawberries? 🍓😉
