Happy 1st Birthday Freya (Dungavin Freya Da Dark) and her litter mates.

1 year ago Bella had her 2nd and final litter giving us Freya, the most chilled out puppy from day 1. As Bella’s first litter resulted in an emergency c-section a scheduled an elective c-section was scheduled with Stuart Mason at Doncaster vets. This meant that following the C-section, Bella and her babies had a 2.5hour trip home. It took a bit longer than our usual 2 hour trip as I would stop every so often to check on the babies to make sure they were nice and warm. We even stopped at Wandong where Bella feed her babies.

The exciting aspect of this litter is that it was a first for us in terms of Both Bella and Gordie were bred by us making this a Dungavin x Dungavin litter.

Unfortunately for us this was Bella’s final litter due to developing milk fever despite us doing everything to prevent it. Lucky for us we had just started the puppies on milk thus weaning was a bit easier and we didn’t need to bottle feed.

We would like to wish Freya’s litter mates a happy 1st birthday

2 years ago we had our first ever Dungavin litter born to our very own Dungavin bred bitch, Bella, which gave us our beautiful Rosie. So much has happened in that time with Rosie having her first litter at the very end of last year which resulted in Gigi. Rosie is a very sweet and gentle girl whom has proven to be a great mum. Pictures are of Rosie when born up until she gave birth to her first litter.

Today Andrew and I met another animal breeder not of Westies but of Belted Galloway cattle at the Seymour farm expo. It was such a pleasure talking to fellow animal breeders whose philosophies, ethics and values align with your’s with respect to animal breeding. What was even funnier is both Andrew and John are avid Bombers fans where Ali and I aren’t in to footy.

For those wondering why we had such an in depth chat with Ali and John from Jalaway Belted Galloway Beef is because we are looking at obtaining cattle at some stage for our block and just like looking for a dog one needs to do their homework to find animals that are well bred, with the desired attributes.

We have a herd of stud Belted Galloway Cattle. We aim to breed cattle with excellent temperament, carcass, sound structure and quality. We produce and sell direct Premium Beef, which is fully grass fed and naturally grown.
