CONFIDENCE BUILDING.

Remy jumping into the van was about two years in the making.

He does NOT like being picked up, so forcing the situation was never an option.

Jumping into the van was never the original goal either. When we started training, I had no idea this would be something he’d need to do one day.

But over the years we focused on building confidence through UPS, OVERS, THROUGHS, SPINS, TOUCH, AROUNDS, and most importantly TRUST.

Those small exercises built a foundation.

So when the time came to learn something new, the process was so much less stressful for him — because the groundwork had already been laid.

Confidence building isn’t about the final behaviour.
It’s about all the little wins that happen along the way.

I keep seeing courses and posts about vagus nerve "resets" etc and I don't know how to tell you this BUT..

This is literally what dog training is about! At least in my mind.

I mean..there is no such thing as a quick "reset" like it's a switch you can just flick.

A good trainer will teach you how to better live with your dog in an enriched and balanced way (including guiding for better exercise, diet, rest and other other wellness areas)

Thus reducing chronic stress, anxiety and arousal.

Dog training isn’t just about commands - done well, it’s nervous system therapy in disguise.

When we train/teach/play we’re not only teaching skills - we’re helping the vagus nerve (the body’s “calm switch”) learn how to balance between excitement and rest.

Here’s how it works 👇

💛 Predictable routines help your dog feel safe → lowering anxiety and creating calmer vagal tone.

🏃‍♀️ Rhythmic movement (like loose leash walking or structured slatmill work or off-leash roaming in nature that we train towards) regulates breathing → steady heart = steady brain.

🫶 Calm human energy teaches co-regulation → your body language becomes their safety cue. And your dog trainer will teach you all that!

🦴 Post-training decompression (chewing, licking opportunities, quiet time, "place" crate, rub down etc) completes the stress cycle → prevents burnout and over-arousal.

🌿 Confidence building gives autonomy → dogs who feel capable have more stable nervous systems.

Being able to freely roam off-leash (or on a longline) in nature - that's all achieved by..
You guessed it,

Dog training!

Train the mind. Move the body. Regulate the system.
