π§π¨ Koalas and Swimming Pools π¨π§
This is a difficult post to write π’ and Iβm so sorry how sad it is everyone but am here to help educate and spread the message so it hopefully can save koala lives π¨π
This beautiful girl we named Summer, sadly drowned in a Gold Coast pool sometime overnight or early hours of this morning. The resident phoned this morning upon finding her in their pool. As we walked up the side gate, we saw this dear sweet girl sadly lying at the bottom of the pool π₯ We assume she was looking for a drink, which is usually why koalas lose their lives to pool drownings. Even though koalas can swim, if there are no assisted ways for a koala to climb out they will eventually drown π₯
If you own a swimming pool and live in a koala habitat area, please consider doing the following to help keep koalas safe:
π¨ tie a very thick and rigid type of rope with a flotation device attached (eg. plastic milk bottle) to a tree and placing on the pool
π¨ or even better is a decent size length of shade cloth/waterproof material/tear resistant material (koalas have sharp claws) with a floatation device attached and then affixed by rope to a nearby tree or fence. This way the koala has more surface area of material to grab onto to get to the safety of the edge of the pool
π¨ cover your pool with a tight pool cover when not in use
With this terrible summer heat and no rain that we are experiencing in so many parts of the country, please help keep wildlife safe with little things you can do. Share this message with your friends and family who have swimming pools. Thank you so much. Rest In Peace Summer girl π¨π thank you to the resident for phoning us.
