πŸ“ Caringbah NSW 2229 – Snake Sightings Breakdown

Despite being one of the busier suburbs in the Shire, Caringbah still records a surprising variety of snake species thanks to its mix of creeks, parks, bush corridors and nearby waterways.

Top Sightings in Caringbah:
🐍 Red-Bellied Black Snake – 32% (highly venomous but generally shy and prefers to avoid people)
🐍 Golden-Crowned Snake – 20% (mildly venomous nocturnal species often found under rocks, logs and leaf litter)

Diamond Python – Yarrawarrah Release

We’re still getting a few jobs coming through on these warmer days, with snakes taking the opportunity to come out and bask.

Now that we’re in mid-May and heading into the last month of autumn, many snakes are already entering brumation or getting very close.

This stunning Diamond Python was removed from a roof space in Yarrawarrah and has now been safely relocated back into the bush.

Red-bellied Black Snake – Figtree Release

Release of a good-sized Red-bellied Black Snake removed from Estia Health retirement village in Figtree. This one had made its way inside one of the residents’ rooms.

While we were there, we completed an inspection and provided some advice on ways to help reduce snakes entering indoors.
With American Creek nearby and a large bushy property behind the village, they do tend to get snake activity regularly. We’re happy to say that Shire Snake Wranglers is now on every notice board throughout the village so residents know exactly who to call if they need assistance.

As some of you might know, I’m heavily involved with the Yarrawarrah Tigers JRLFC. I was President for 3 years and am now the licensee of the new Tiger Tavern. My 3 boys also play for the club, and I still run around in the Over 35’s League Tag team as well.

As part of the new tavern, we had some stubby holders made up, as we’re only licensed to sell cans. While putting the Tiger Tavern order together, I also decided to create a small run for Shire Snake Wranglers as a bit of fun and a promotional item.

If you’d like one, send me a message! They’re mainly just a fun little promo piece, but I reckon they turned out pretty good 🐍🍻

πŸ”₯ FLASHBACK πŸ”₯

Still one of the wildest few days I’ve ever had doing this…

What started as a simple post on the Sutherland Shire Snake Sightings page quickly turned into absolute chaos. A video of a boa constrictor popped up, I reported it to DPIβ€”and then it just exploded. Phones ringing non-stop, media everywhere, and reports flying in from all over the Shire.

Late that night I even got called out to Sylvania for a β€œboa in a pond”… turned out to be a blue tongue keeping everyone on their toes πŸ˜…

But the next day, it all came together. After a tip-off, I tracked the snake down near the Sylvania boat rampβ€”found it with a bloke who was way too comfortable holding it! The boa was safely secured and handed over to DPI.

Ended up doing radio, TV, and a heap of interviews (definitely not my usual comfort zone), but it was great to see the community so engaged and looking out for each other.
Crazy how one post can turn into something that big.

Who remembers this one? πŸ‘€

Diamond Python – Wombarra

Just got a call-out to Wombarra for a stunning Diamond Python up in a front yard tree.

We’re definitely getting more and more calls around the Northern Wollongong area, and it’s great to see these beautiful snakes thriving in the area.

The python was safely removed and relocated.
