We've been busy experimenting with dehydrating our own treats that aren't coated with nasty chemicals or dipped in preservatives. Chicken feet seem to be the winner for adult dogs, especially whelping bi***es, due to being nutrient-rich and packed with collagen. They're also a rich source of glucosamine and chondroitin, which are crucial for maintaining healthy cartilage, important for an active or older dog with arthritis. Great for oral dental hygiene, scraping away plaque and tartar, they're easily digestible and low in calories, so as to keep an eye on the waistline.
Obviously, they're not for puppies due to size and bones; they're a bigger dog treat only.
The tribe all semi-rejected them at first, as they're used to yummier ones like liver, which they go crazy for however they look for them now 🤣🐾🐾
And no…we didn’t go and roll a heap of chickens …we went to the butcher and started with a 20kg box, 3 huge beef livers and a 20kg box of necks as well…all for under $100 🐾🐾
The liver also turned out amazing although hard to get off the trays…and the necks need more experimenting, started the temp too low and they developed a smell…which the tribe thought was great however my kitchen didn’t 😳🐾🐾

This is my brave little house hound Gidget….no she is not a mini Foxi but runs with the brat pack and thinks she is 🤣….she has been down at these amazing humans for a couple of months being miracoulously saved. We can’t wait to have her home, missing her greatly 🫶🐾🐾

Meet Gidget, who recently presented to VSS Jindalee with severe wounds over the dorsum of his spine. He required reconstructive surgery and bandages with Specialist Surgeon, Dr Abbie Tipler.
He was doing really well; however, our Jindalee staff were soon faced with the most difficult of all decisions in late November...
Was it too early for the Christmas themed bandage art to make an appearance?
After much discussion, the hard call was made to apply the bandages. This resulted in an excellent outcome, as you can see.
Gidget is doing well and will be home for Christmas in Rockhampton!

With the weather warming up…stay vigilent with keeping an eye out for snakes. We currently have one at the vets fighting for her little life due to a big brown. I arrived home from town and noticed an eagle swooping off the ground in a front paddock and thought must be swooping at some sort of prey.
The dogs greeted me as they always do however one was wobbling up the road… I ran to her calling and picked her up ….her bright blue eyes had turned yellow and she wasn’t responding by talking back as she does. Put her straight in the car and raced back to town to the vets…all they could find was a scratch on her inner ear. Done a coagulation test and they said “must be a big brown as still had clotted after 3/4 mins”….straight away thought of the eagle swooping and knew that she wouldn’t be able to handle a big brown on her own so raced back to get all other dogs to bring in to check bloods just in case, thankfully none of them had been bitten. When I went back to collect the others I drove into the paddock where I seen the eagle swooping and sure enough found this big guy.
I know at least 2 of the others would have definatley been involved due to the damage inflicted as Gidget couldn’t have done all that 😲🤞
