What you are seeing here is the foundation of intentional garden design 👩🏽‍🌾

This is permaculture zoning - a method that maps out how often different areas of a garden are used and places elements accordingly.

From drawing it out...
to assigning zones...
to physically mapping the design

This is how you create a garden that feels intuitive, efficient and easy to maintain.

Save this if you are planning your own garden design! Learn more through our Permaculture Design Course - link in bio to find out more 🍅

Don't plant this in Perth 👀

Yep - we are talking about comfrey. It's not the best fit for Perth climate.

The better alternative? Nettles 🌿

Underrated, nutrient-rich and incredible for compost & soil support (makes a lovely tea too!)

Want to learn why some plants thrive (or struggle) in Perth gardens? Our Permaculture Design Course teaches practical, climate-conscious growing for real backyards.

At the Farm, we never stop being students!

Our staff and volunteers took a break from the office and the garden to learn the art of handmade tofu. Inspired from her recent travels from Japan, Kate (our amazing accountant) gave us a lesson on tofu making🫘

From humble soybeans to a fresh, firm block of tofu! Enjoyed with a delicious warm cup of miso - perfect for the chilly day.

What's one kitchen skill you've always wanted to master?

This grows on trees - and you can turn it into beer🌿

Things you can do with honey locust tree bean pods:
• pods contain sweetish-sour sticky pulp, edible and the texture is like a toffee or caramel. It can be brewed into tea or made into syrups.
• honey locust beer! Martina made some last year - sweet, malty and slightly woody.

Honey locust pods are just one example of how much potential can be found in the garden. Learn to see it, use it and grow with it in our Permaculture Design Course in July.
