WELCOME BACK Dr Pip! 🩺🐴🏥

We are beyond excited to have Dr Pip back working with our team here at Bendigo Equine Hospital.
With her extensive history and experience with us, Dr Pip is no stranger. We couldn’t be more thrilled she is back in town.

Dr Pip will split her time between our hospital in Bendigo and our satellite clinic in Lancefield.
If you see Dr Pip around, be sure to give her a warm welcome back! She’s ready to jump right in and continue giving exceptional care to our four legged friends.

It's Vet Receptionist Week!

A great time to put our receptionists Monique and Kaitlyn in the spotlights!

Our reception team is generally the first point of contact for our clients. Their friendly faces and voices are so important to us. They are the quiet working bees, our busy hospital could not go without!

Every day they do the impossible; making our vets day run smoothly.

Please join us in saying a huge THANK YOU to our amazing office team! We couldn't do it without you.

Placentitis - let’s talk about it!

Placentitis in mares is an infection or inflammation of the placenta. The placenta is the sac where the foal grows. It can lead to premature birth, abortions or the birth of compromised foals.

Symptoms include va**na discharge, premature udder development and/or premature lactation.

Diagnosis includes but is not limited to an ultrasound of the mares placenta, this can be achieved ether rectally or abdominally. Your vet will measure the mares CTUP (combined thickness of the uterus and placenta). Pictured above is a smooth healthy placenta and then an irregular thickened placenta.

Treatment can include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications and hormone supplementation.

If you have a mare in foal, keep a close eye out for symptoms of placentitis. If you have any questions please get in touch with one of our friendly members of staff.

Equine Computed Tomography (CT) ☢️🦿🩻

Here at Victorian Equine Group, we’re fortunate to offer CT imaging for foals and small ponies. Through partnerships with local small animal hospitals across Bendigo, we’re able to access advanced imaging facilities.

CT is a powerful diagnostic tool that allows us to identify conditions that may not be visible on standard radiographs (X-rays). By providing detailed cross-sectional images, CT gives us a clearer picture of complex areas such as the head, neck, and limbs.

Advanced imaging like CT is another way we strive to provide the highest level of care for our patients—no matter their size!
