🏥Today was all about levelling up our patient care! 🏥

We were so lucky to have Dr Maria Bellei, Specialist Veterinary Anaesthetist from SASH (Small Animal Specialist Hospital), visit Orana Veterinary Services to work alongside our team. 🩺

Dr Maria helped us review and refine our anaesthetic protocols — tailoring them specifically to the types of patients and procedures we commonly see here at Orana. From BOAS surgeries and TPLOs to routine desexings, these updated protocols mean even safer, smoother anaesthesia and recovery for your pets. 🐶🐱

At Orana Veterinary Services, we are committed to constantly learning and growing so we can provide the highest standard of care — because your pets deserve nothing less.

We’re incredibly proud of our team and grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from one of the best in the field!

Your pets are family — and that’s exactly how we treat them.🫶🏼

Is Your Dog Vomiting, Struggling to Breathe, or Constantly Snoring? 🐶💙

These could be signs of Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS)—a common issue in flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Frenchies. Their adorable squishy faces often come with narrowed airways, making it harder for them to breathe properly.

🚨 Signs your dog may have BOAS:
🔹 Noisy breathing or snoring (even when awake)
🔹 Excessive panting, especially in warm weather
🔹 Vomiting or gagging, especially after eating or drinking
🔹 Struggling during exercise or collapsing from exhaustion

💉 The good news? BOAS surgery can help! At Orana Vets, we have been performing this procedure for years—right here in the Central West—helping countless dogs breathe easier and live more comfortable lives.

🐾 If your pup is showing these signs, book a consult today—because every breath matters! 🩵

🚨 Meet Athena🚨

This sweet girl, Athena, had a scary experience after ingesting mouse bait, a common but highly toxic substance for pets. Thanks to the quick action, she received urgent veterinary care, but her situation could have been life-threatening.

🐾 Rodenticides (Mouse & Rat Bait) Can Cause:
⚠️ Internal bleeding (some types act as anticoagulants)
⚠️ Seizures or tremors (neurotoxic baits)
⚠️ Kidney failure (certain formulations)
⚠️ Severe vomiting and lethargy

🚑 What to Do If Your Pet Ingests Poison:
1️⃣ Stay calm and act fast.
2️⃣ Call your vet or an animal poison helpline immediately.
3️⃣ Do NOT wait for symptoms to appear—some toxins take time to show effects.
4️⃣ If safe, bring the product packaging for identification.

💡 Prevention Tips:
✅ Store all poisons securely out of reach.
✅ Use pet-safe alternatives for pest control.
✅ Know the signs of poisoning (vomiting, weakness, abnormal bleeding, tremors).

Athena is lucky to have received prompt treatment💙🐾

🐾 Surgery Drop-Off Reminder 🐾

Would you leave your child at the hospital before surgery and say, “Good luck, kiddo!” without speaking to the doctor? No? Well, the same goes for your furry family member! 🐶🐱

Lately, we’ve noticed an increase in people dropping off their friend’s dog or their neighbor’s cat without much info to go on. But here’s the thing—surgery is serious, and every pet deserves the best care we can give.

We need to talk to YOU, the pet parent, to explain the procedure, discuss the risks, and answer your questions. Your presence helps us build trust and ensures your beloved pet gets exactly what they need.

So, when it’s time for your fur baby’s big day, make sure we see your friendly face! It makes all the difference for them—and us. 🐾❤️

Thank you for helping us give your pets the care they deserve!

🛑 Parvovirus Alert: Protect Your Pets! 🛑

Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease affecting dogs, especially puppies and unvaccinated adults. It spreads through contact with infected f***s or contaminated surfaces and can survive in the environment for months.

💡 Symptoms to watch for:
• Severe vomiting
• Bloody diarrhea
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite

🚨 Why it’s critical: Parvo can lead to dehydration, septic shock, and even death if untreated. Immediate veterinary care is vital.

✅ Prevention is key!
• Ensure your dog is up to date with vaccinations.
• Avoid contact with unvaccinated dogs or areas where infected dogs may have been.
• Clean and disinfect areas where an infected dog has been with a bleach solution.

📆 Book your pet’s vaccination appointment today at Orana Vets to keep them safe. If you notice any signs of parvo, contact us immediately at 02 6800 1722!

Let’s work together to protect our furry friends. ❤️🐾

🔥☀️Did you know that pets are at high risk of heat stroke in warmer months? ☀️🔥

This cool little gal is rocking some shades, 😎but even with sun protection, it’s essential to recognize the signs of overheating in pets. 🐾

🥵Heat stroke is a serious condition that can happen quickly, especially in brachycephalic breeds (like Bulldogs) and pets with heavy coats.🥵

Here’s what to watch out for:

• Excessive panting or drooling 🆘
• Lethargy or disorientation🆘
• Red or pale gums 🆘
• Vomiting or diarrhea🆘
• Collapsing or seizures🆘

🏥If you notice these symptoms, cool your pet immediately by applying cool (not cold) water to their belly and paws, offer small amounts of water, and seek veterinary help ASAP. 🏥

🚗🦮Prevention is key—limit exercise on hot days, provide plenty of shade, and avoid leaving pets in cars. 🐕‍🦺🚗

Stay cool, stay safe, and let’s keep our furry friends healthy! 🐶☀️
