West Gippsland Vet Care Drouin

West Gippsland Vet Care Drouin At West Gippsland Vet Care we have over 200 years combined experience and we pride ourselves in providing Excellence in Animal Care.

Our goal is to offer high quality comprehensive veterinary care tor small animals and large animals, ensuring peace of mind for farmers and pet owners alike. West Gippsland Vet Care began operating as a single vet practice in Warragul in 1989 and has evolved into a practice consisting of 6 full time veterinarians and 2 part time veterinarians, backed by a dedicated team of veterinary nurses. In 20

06 the Warragul clinic underwent major renovations to become a spacious, purpose built veterinary clinic. In early 2010 our Drouin clinic was relocated to a newly renovated, modern veterinary facility, enabling us to provide a high level of veterinary care to our Drouin clients. Working from these modern facilities, we hope to continue to live up to our reputation for providing a friendly and welcoming environment for clients and their animals. Our staff are continually updating their skills and knowledge through seminars and conferences in order to provide the latest techniques and treatments for our patients.

Great question! Diagnostic screening tests can act as an early warning system to uncover health issues before your dog
shows signs of illness.

Comparing test results from year to year
also helps us to better understand your dog’s individual health needs. 🐾

🐶 Bones: Which Ones Are Safe for Your Dog? 🦴

As much as dogs love chewing bones, not all bones are safe! Giving the wrong type can lead to choking, broken teeth, Blockages or serious digestive issues. Here’s a quick guide:

✅ Safe Bones:

Raw meaty bones (like beef or lamb knuckles) – always supervise your dog.

Large raw bones that your dog cannot swallow whole.

Commercially prepared chew bones designed specifically for dogs.

❌ Unsafe Bones:

Cooked bones (chicken, pork, or beef) – they can splinter easily.

Split bones – these are particularly dangerous as they can easily break into sharp pieces.

Small bones that can be swallowed whole.

Bones with sharp edges or brittle texture.

Tips for safe chewing:

Always supervise your dog with a bone.

Limit chewing sessions .

Discard any small fragments to prevent choking.

Giving your dog safe bones can help keep their teeth clean, satisfy their natural chewing instinct, and provide mental stimulation – just be careful which ones you choose!

Last month, our Vet Nurse Kyla had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with AMRRIC, an Indigenous Dog Health program, visiting remote communities in northwest South Australia. 🐾

The program focuses on desexing and parasite control, helping improve the health and wellbeing of dogs in communities that need it most. It was such a rewarding experience, and we’re so proud of Kyla for being part of something so meaningful 💛

🐾🦷 Keep Your Pet’s Teeth Healthy with Dental Diets!

Did you know some pet foods are specially formulated to help reduce plaque and tartar buildup? Dental diets can:
✔ Support healthy gums
✔ Help prevent bad breath
✔ Reduce the risk of dental disease

While dental diets are not a replacement for regular brushing and professional dental care, they’re a great addition to your pet’s oral health routine!
