Hello all,
Congratulations to Dr Colin Walker on his retirement this month and on building Melbourne Bird Veterinary Clinic to where it is today. Colin has made a wonderful contribution to the field of Avian Medicine, particularly in the field of racing pigeons. He will continue as owner of the Australian Pigeon Company, where Laura will still be working, which will move to their warehouse in Bayswater. Colin is continuing to collaborate with the new owners of MBVC, Drs Pat Macwhirter and Matt Gosbell on any challenging pigeon medical problems.
We’ll tell you more about new staff members in future posts, but for the moment suffice to say Drs Pat and Matt are both very experienced avian veterinarians, Pat was the first registered specialist in the discipline in Victoria and Matt has given the Bird Medicine lectures at Melbourne University for many years. Most recently we have been working together at Greencross Vets in Springvale. A huge shout out to our former colleagues and clients in the Greencross network. Circumstances for this move came completely out of left field and they were as surprising for us as for others. Matt is currently on a long-planned cycling trip in the French Alps but will officially start at MBVC on September 8.
We have a new logo for the clinic, hope you like it, comments welcome! There are some changes happening and in the pipeline. We’re now open 9am-6pm Monday to Friday, 9-12 on Saturdays and 10:30 am – noon on Sundays. Please phone for an appointment between these times. There will be limited availability and a $20 surcharge for appointments on Sundays so please save these for urgent issues. We’ll also be allowing for later appointments on a Tuesday night for those who have difficulty making it earlier, there is no surcharge for these, just ask.
The other staff members you may be working with are Drs Madeleine Rowe and Lee Peacock and veterinary nurses Tawny Smith, Tracey Hamilton and Rebecca Liew. Melissa Vincent, our bird behaviourist, also sees patients at the clinic. Between us we have many years’ experience in bird medicine, surgery, behaviour and bird keeping generally. We appreciate your patience during this change over period and very much look forward to working with you and your birds in the years to come.
