CANINE SNAKE AVOIDANCE TRAINING FOR YOUR DOG
Each year around 6000 dogs are bitten by snakes here in Australia. Sadly, many of them are not discovered until it’s too late and they don’t survive.Snakes are never out to hurt your dog, rather they’re travelling through your backyard and the dog will put its nose right against the snake whereby they are most often bitten on the nose. Often, the dogs kill the snake too.
There is a way to help prevent this situation so both snakes and dogs can be safe. It’s called and it’s a must for dogs living in Australia.
Using safe and controlled exposure to venomous snakes such as browns, tigers, red bellied blacks, copperheads as well as a range of pythons, our training program teaches your dog to identify the danger of snakes by recognizing their scent, appearance and movement. By using so many different snakes, your dog learns to generalize that ANY type of snake found in Australia, no matter where you are, can be avoided.
It works by using an electronic collar and applying a light stimulation when they come near a snake. By using both operant and classical conditioning, the dogs learn to avoid snakes, and create an association that snakes are causing them discomfort. This makes the training reliable to avoid snakes.
It’s a 2 day course. On day one we come to your property in Melbourne and on day 2, you come to us. We train every type and size of dog. Rather than make the dog fit in with what we want, we tailor and customize the training for your dog’s individual needs.
