🐴 Is your horse dropping weight despite being fed well?

One of the biggest mistakes I see is focusing only on calories.

Weight loss is often a sign that something else needs attention.

Common factors include:

✔️ Poor gut health
✔️ Reduced nutrient absorption
✔️ Dental issues
✔️ Parasite burden
✔️ Chronic pain or discomfort
✔️ Stress
✔️ Increased energy demands during winter

Before simply adding more feed, it's worth asking why your horse is struggling to maintain condition in the first place.

The best results come from identifying and addressing the underlying cause.

For those who are new here, welcome.

I'm Karyn Campbell.

I grew up around horses and later became a qualified naturopath before completing further studies in equine herbal medicine.

Since then I've worked with horses across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Germany.

I love helping owners understand their horses better and creating practical nutrition and herbal strategies that support long-term health.

I believe education is one of the most important parts of what I do.

The more owners understand their horses, the better decisions they can make.

Thanks for being here.

❤️ Ageing doesn't mean slowing down.

Many senior horses can remain healthy, active and comfortable well into their later years with appropriate support.

I often focus on:
✔ Digestive efficiency
✔ Weight maintenance
✔ Respiratory health
✔ Joint comfort
✔ Nutritional adequacy

Growing older is inevitable.

Feeling old isn't.

Do you have a senior horse?

Tell me their age below.

🚫 MYTH: Herbs are just expensive grass.

✅ FACT: Medicinal herbs contain specific active compounds that have been studied and used for centuries.

Different herbs have different actions:
🌿 Support the respiratory system
🌿 Support liver function
🌿 Support digestion
🌿 Assist stress responses
🌿 Promote healthy skin

Just like nutrition, successful herbal medicine is about choosing the right herb for the right horse at the right time.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach.

❄ Winter isn't just about rugs.

As temperatures drop, many horses face challenges including:
• Respiratory irritation
• Reduced pasture quality
• Increased energy requirements
• Stiffness and discomfort
• Compromised immunity

This is the time of year I start looking closely at:
🌿 Gut health
🌿 Mineral intake
🌿 Respiratory support
🌿 Immune function
🌿 Weight maintenance

Supporting horses before problems arise is always easier than trying to fix them later.

How is your horse coping with winter so far?

🌿 Why Equine Herbal Medicine?

People often ask me why I chose to specialise in horses.
The answer is simple.

Horses are herbivores. For thousands of years, they have instinctively sought out plants to support their health and wellbeing. Herbal medicine works with the horse's natural physiology, supporting the body's own healing processes rather than simply masking symptoms.

When I assess a horse, I'm not just looking at the problem in front of me.

I consider:
✔ Diet
✔ Workload
✔ Pasture management
✔ Stress levels
✔ Gut health
✔ Mineral balance
✔ Environment

My goal is always to identify and address the underlying causes wherever possible.

Every horse deserves to feel its best.

When we think about horse health, we often focus only on the horse… but what about the rider?

I believe horse and rider are deeply connected. Your horse feels your energy, your stress, your calm, your confidence and the way you show up each day.

As an Equine Herbalist and Naturopath, I’m passionate about supporting both ends of the lead rope — helping horses naturally through herbs, nutrition and holistic care, while also supporting the women behind them.

Because when the rider feels balanced, energised and well, and the horse feels healthy and supported, amazing things can happen.

🌿 Horses have been using plants long before humans ever put them in bottles.

As herbivores, horses naturally seek and utilise plants to support different functions within the body. Equine herbal medicine isn’t about masking symptoms — it’s about looking at the whole horse and asking why something is happening in the first place.

I look at the bigger picture:
✨ Diet
✨ Pasture and environment
✨ Lifestyle and workload
✨ Gut health
✨ Stress and nervous system support
✨ Individual needs of the horse

Whether it’s digestive health, respiratory support, skin concerns, recovery, seasonal changes or simply helping horses feel and perform at their best, herbs can be a gentle and powerful part of the picture.

Every horse is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

Because healthy horses don’t just perform better — they feel better. 🐴🌿
