🌿 Wellness Wednesday 🌿

Did you know that spending time with horses can support emotional well-being, confidence, and social connection?

Horses live in the moment. They don't judge, rush, or expect perfection. Their calm and honest nature can help us slow down, regulate our emotions, build trust, and develop meaningful connections with both animals and people.

At Totoka Lodge, wellness isn't just about riding horses—it's about building confidence, developing life skills, fostering friendships, and creating opportunities to connect with nature in a safe and supportive environment.

Whether it's grooming a horse, leading them through an activity, working as part of a team, or simply enjoying time outdoors, every interaction can contribute to positive wellbeing outcomes.

🐴 What is one thing that helps you feel calm, connected, or happy?

🌿 Meet & Greet Monday – Nevaeh 🌿

This week we’re introducing the lovely Nevaeh 💛

🐴 What do you enjoy most about working with horses?
“Horses have no judgement. You can tell them things you’re afraid for others to hear. They trust you purely on how you treat them.”

🐎 Which horse at Totoka Lodge would be your best friend and why?
“Possum — he’s very trusting, like a big teddy bear.”

✨ Describe Totoka Lodge in three words:
Inclusive • Family • Love

🐾 Do you have any pets?
“I have two horses of my own — Stanley and Primrose. They both have very different personalities, but both are approachable and loving.”

💬 Fun Fact About Nevaeh:
She’s been riding horses since she was 5 years old!

🎬 Favourite movie:
Me Before You

🎵 Song on repeat:
“There Must Be an Angel”

We’re so lucky to have Nevaeh as part of the Totoka Lodge family. Her calm, caring nature and love for horses shines through in everything she does. 💛

✨ Cold days, muddy paddocks, and bright white manes… thank goodness for The NRG Team No-Nots! ✨

We honestly couldn’t survive winter without them. 🐴💛

Between the mud, rain, and endless knots, NRG’s No-Nots make grooming so much easier and help keep our herd looking and feeling their best — especially our light-coloured horses with those gorgeous white manes and tails.

A huge thank you to NRG for supporting our team and helping us care for the horses who are such an important part of everything we do here at Totoka Lodge.

If you’ve got horses this winter, you know how essential a good detangler is! 🙌

🐴 Meet the Horse Friday – Blue 💙

Say hello to Blue, our beautiful 5-year-old Stock Horse and one of the younger members of the Totoka Lodge herd. ✨

Blue is curious, clever, and full of personality. He loves interaction and is always eager to learn, making him a wonderful horse for building engagement, confidence, and connection during sessions.

Because Blue is still young, participants get to grow alongside him — learning the importance of patience, clear communication, consistency, and trust. These shared experiences can support the development of interpersonal skills, emotional awareness, confidence, and positive social interaction within our group and social recreational activities.

Blue brings a fun, gentle energy to the herd and reminds us that learning happens step by step — for horses and humans alike. 💛

💛 Sometimes the quiet moments say the most. 💛

A little down time for Paula and her gorgeous boy Woobie — enjoying connection, trust, and simply being together. 🐴✨

The relationships built with horses can encourage confidence, emotional awareness, communication, and meaningful social connection in a calm and supportive environment.

Moments like these remind us that participation doesn’t always need to be loud to be meaningful. Sometimes growth happens in the quiet connection between horse and human. 🌿

🌿 Wellness Wednesday 🌿

Well-being can grow through meaningful connection, shared experiences, and feeling part of a supportive community. 💛

At Totoka Lodge, our group and social activities provide participants with opportunities to build confidence, develop social skills, strengthen communication, and increase community participation in a calm, outdoor environment alongside horses.

Through activities such as grooming, groundwork, team-based tasks, and group interaction, participants are supported to engage with others, practise daily living and interpersonal skills, and work towards their individual NDIS goals in a way that is engaging and participant-led.

Horses play an important role in creating a grounding and motivating environment that encourages participation, routine, emotional awareness, and positive social connection.

Every small step in participation helps build confidence for everyday life. 🐴✨
