As long as the fabric is still half ok, did you know you (I) can turn old summer rugs into liners for winter rugs? A *lot* cheaper than you can buy pre made liners too. The chest strap attachments were falling off this - not to worry, liners don’t need them anyway. A leg strap torn out of the rug? Not to worry - we don’t need them either…
Just mark where you want the connectors to be and away we go. Bonus points (ie it’s cheaper) if you unpick all the excess straps off it first.
I’m using Velcro loops at the back, which allow for a size variation between top and bottom rug - meaning way more adjustability and usability across different horses.

One of the things that’s been on my invisible to do list for far too long, has been to convert some old cotton rugs into liners.
Brought to you in a great hurry today bc I Jonesy connected with his inner Pablo Escobar Hippo - We had over an inch of rain yesterday - and Jonesy enjoyed every bit of it.

Last years 50g horseware rugs are very waterproof. Until they’re gleefully submerged, hippo, rug and all. And then not surprisingly it’s a case of ‘the calls coming from inside the house’.
It’s dried out today and I’ll chuck the fresh cotton liner on under it tonight and it’ll be grand. Until the next swimming lesson.

I did Velcro loops at the back so I can adjust them depending which size horse they’re on. It works!

One thing about cheaper synthetic winter rugs is it seems to be common for the gussets seam to come unstitched. And another weak spot, in some brands more than others, is where the neck rug joins the rug - the funny little corner there…. Has anyone else noticed that?

I don’t remember (all of) my grandparents neighbours names. Not the ones who owned Stevens, anyway. But I sure do remember Stevens - His name and attitude! I remember being advised quite often - if I should find Stevens asleep in the sun in my grandparent’s garden (and he seemed to be there quite a lot, right near the sundial) do not try to pat him. Do not try and pick him up. Leave Stevens to be Stevens. This pic surfaced this week - Henry and Stevens being Stevens.

This saddle was the one my client learnt to ride in, had a myriad of awesome (and probably not so awesome) memories in. It couldn’t be a handbag. But also they probably wouldn’t use a handbag. But fancy pants drinks coasters - yes yes.

The top of the saddle had, many years previously, been sealed for an art project but then never continued. Which meant the underneath leather was the layer I wanted to use - and fortunately, that’s where the brand stamps were.
The under side of half of the coasters are made from the cream panel leather. The other half a beautiful dark green.
Cut, glued, stitch line marked, sewn, edged, conditioned and then dubbined to minimize the likelihood of water marks.

They’ll probably outlive us 🤭🤣

Why haven’t I been posting on TFQ much? = bc my phone’s full and I don’t want to sit down and sort it out.

Why is my phone full? = well, its as old as methuselah and it’s full of terrible photos of random wonders… such as 3 spools of thread… and an awful lot of cats.

Why don’t I buy a new phone? = well bc I also don’t want to do that. Bc then I’d have to sit down and decide which one to buy and that’s unfun.

It was a swarm of Bartons in Heyfield today. I took Henry for the drive but didn’t exhibit him. Dad took the B Model, and my uncle, brother and cousin took their trucks too.
It was a good day out for some, others found it to be character building but thankfully it wasn’t my character being built this time around - I’ll take that as a win.
There’s plenty happening, if you’re local and haven’t been this weekend it’s worth a look.
