We had an absolute *fluff-fest* at the clinic this week with a litter of 10 gorgeous Alaskan Malamute puppies! 🐶❄️

These big, beautiful personalities kept us very busy — and yes, there was plenty of puppy cuddling involved! 😍

It’s always so important for growing puppies to have their health checks, vaccinations, microchipping and preventative healthcare kept up to date as they head off to their new homes.

👁️🐶 Corneal Ulcers – Sometimes the Injury Isn’t Visible!

We saw a patient today who presented with an acutely painful, sore eye. At first glance, there was no obvious injury — but when your pet suddenly develops a painful eye, it’s important to investigate further.

We performed a fluorescein stain, which highlighted a small corneal scratch that wasn’t visible on routine examination.

💧 We were able to start antibiotic eye drops immediately, along with appropriate pain relief, to help protect the eye and get our patient comfortable.

Corneal ulcers can develop from something as simple as a scratch from a grass seed, dirt, another animal, rubbing the eye or even a foreign body. They can sometimes progress quickly and, in severe cases, threaten vision or even the eye itself.

🚨 Signs to watch for include:
• Squinting or keeping an eye closed
• Excessive tearing
• Redness
• Rubbing or pawing at the eye
• Cloudiness or a change in the appearance of the eye
• Sudden sensitivity to light

**A sore eye is never one to ignore.** 👁️

If your pet suddenly develops a painful or irritated eye, early examination and treatment can make a big difference. 💙

🐱💥 Cat Fight Wounds – Small Wound, BIG Problem!

Cat fights can leave behind wounds that look tiny on the surface but can cause **serious infections underneath**.

A cat’s sharp teeth can create a small puncture that quickly seals over, trapping bacteria beneath the skin. Within a few days, this can develop into a **painful abscess**.

Keep an eye out for:
🐾 Swelling or a lump
😿 Pain or sensitivity
🌡️ Fever or lethargy
💧 Pus or discharge
👅 Excessive licking of one area
🍽️ Reduced appetite or hiding

Even if you can only find a tiny puncture wound, it’s worth having it checked. **Early treatment can prevent a much bigger problem developing.**
