Just had to share this little gem from my research today 📚
I’ve been diving into some of Dr Stokes’ old poultry books as I build out my new Quamby Hollows book, and wow… it’s like stepping back in time.
Check out today’s video below, i zoom right in on a page talking about something you’d never see recommended now, in incubators and brooders 🔥
It’s fascinating (and a bit wild) to read how poultry keeping used to be done. Some of the methods are completely outdated by today’s standards, but they tell such an important story about how far poultry science and animal care has come.
I love finding these little historical details because it helps me shape the book in a way that’s not just practical, but grounded in real poultry history, the good, the bad, and the “I can’t believe they did that” moments.
It also makes me appreciate modern brooding setups so much more… safe heat, stable temps, and no kerosene lamps in sight thankfully!
More snippets from my research journey coming soon.
