And this is the reason why super strip grazing is so efficient! And why destocking at the right time is critical. Got to manage the relationship between length of pasture, number of animals, time on pasture in such a way that the pasture can spring back easily after grazing.

EDIT: this must be a sign of good fortune being greeted by horse hugs on the first day of the Lunar New Year: the Year of the HORSE!

It's mid-feb (11 Feb 26) and its been a bit of a dry summer.. so not a lot pasture.. may have to up the grain feed for the horses if the grass isn't growing.

But... an advantage though is that the horses eat everything around the ratstail! Leaving the clumps exposed so that I can spot spray them. It's a never ending battle with the ratstail, and the sooner it can eradicated from the pastures the better!

There is not a farmer or anyone who keeps live stock to whom this has not happened!! turn the tap on to refill water troughs, do another chore, get interrupted.. and .. by the time you realise you never went back to close the tap, the tank is drained.

Which happened to us twice last week!!😵‍💫🥺 Once we remembered at 10pm at night, and had to scurry to the paddock to turn it off, but a few days later, we only saw the following day, and yep, all the water was gone, which meant the horses had to be moved to a different paddock and the whole affair just upset the day etc.

So off to the local opshop, bought a flamboyant bracelet - rule is, you put the bracelet on when you open the tank and you put it back on the tap when you close it. One look at the bracelet on your wrist will tell you the tap is still open!
