My beautiful batch of prime lucurne arrived... but then the clouds closed and rain threatened. So decided to tarp it over and will offload when there is less chance of it getting mouldy. It's very humid and warm even though we are in March ('24).

Not my picture, but a very interesting concept... the wires are run alternatly on the flatside,the sharp side and througb the star picket. This should give a very stable fence.

Tender little shoots comming through the mulch. One can clearly see how much more moisture the soil with the mulch layer retains.

I thought the part about the calcium and mineral imbalances particularly interesting.. so I went off to the local feedstore and came back with this mineral lick... the poor sales assistant had to be very patient.. they had a big variety..some more suitable for cattle and sheep etc.. spent about 2 hours reading all the labels and a bit of on the spot dr. Google.. in the end quite happy with this selection.. and the horses LOVE it! Took to it straight away!

Wow - saw this very interesting article on our vet's page! So many people guessed right on how the injury occurred.. which has got me thinking.. gate latch injuries appear to be quite common.. has me thinking that this warrents some investigation on how to prevent these..anyone has some tips/experience with this topic?

Remember the musk flavoured hard candy cane bought for the horses to enjoy? Well... after several weeks, they have paid it precious little attention. Pretty much nothing at all!! 🙄 The salt lick on the other hand, is reducing in size. But the item that's the clear favourite is the molasses mineral lick!

Deworming time today! What products and program do you use? I am going to use this liquid drench for the first time (historically always used paste and pellets). Seem to cover a wide range of nasties. I esp deworm in spring, because the rain and warmer weather also makes these beasties pro-create.

Yay or Nay? I think this would be quite sturdy to walk on... but would be worried about the wires inside the tyres.. over time those may stick out and puncture the hoof? And cutting tyres is hell of a hard and time consuming work.. so nope, no plans to tackle this one.
