Feeling the cold?🥶
Your pet will be too!
A great way to keep our pets warmer in these colder months are pet jumpers and jackets. These can be extra helpful for our senior pets who are more susceptible to the temperature drop. Another is making sure their bedding is elevated off hard, cold flooring.

🩺MEET THE TEAM🩺

- Dr Anna 💙
Head Veterinarian

Our seasoned veteran and team mentor is that of Dr Anna. Starting her veterinary career in mixed dairy practice in Terang and Mortlake, Dr Anna worked in this field for 20 years before making a change. Moving overseas to the UK with her young family for two years, Anna’s passion for small animals in general practice was ignited.

On returning to Australia the family moved to Ballarat in 2014 and in November 2016, Anna and her husband Jim opened Ballarat Pet and Farm Vet. Wanting to cater to the regional demographic where farm/hobby pets are just as much family as the dog or cat, Dr Anna has worked tirelessly to ensure our Ballarat locals have access to a realistic spectrum of vet care.

Now working alongside Dr Megan, Dr Anna always ensures her patients and her team receive the best of her care and support. Its not uncommon for our team to hear, that Dr Anna has taken on another stray case or rehomed an animal herself because of others circumstances. Dr Anna devotes so much of her time in aiding our vets and nurses, encouraging them to challenge themselves whilst providing her nonchalant wisdom. Our team culture is very much influenced by both Dr Anna and Dr Megan, family friendly and prioritising work life balance, which can be very difficult in veterinary medicine.

Passionate about travel, Anna is a devotee of the ski slopes and a hot coffee when she can pull herself away from the clinic.

We cannot thank you enough Dr Anna for all you do! 💙

😽🐾 Purr-poseful call out for kitten foster carers!

Kitten season is well underway and the Ballarat Animal Shelter needs community support more than ever.

Foster homes are vital to giving young cats the best possible start in life by providing care, space and individual attention. By opening your home for even a few weeks, you can help free up space at the shelter and give a kitten the best possible chance to thrive.

Kittens thrive in home environments where they receive one on one care, socialisation and the chance to grow into confident, healthy cats. Foster care also helps reduce the risk of illness often associated with shelter environments.

The shelter provides all food, litter and veterinary care, with no cost involved.

To find out how to become a foster carer, contact the Ballarat Animal Shelter:

🧣Snoods with the ‘tude! ❄️

With the change of season already here (sadly!) here are Nurse Tara’s pooches Monty and Maisie modelling their new to keep them warmer.

You may start to notice some slight changes in your pets with the colder weather, which may be a sign they need to come and see us for a visit:

🌨️ Taking longer to move about, get around the house or get up from their bed.
🧤Reluctance to exercise or less interest in “walkies” or engagement with you.
⛄️ Toileting inappropriately such as in the base of the shower, in their bedding or on soft blankets or carpet.
☔️Change to temperament; grumpiness when being handled or showing signs of aggression.
🌧️ Increase in appetite, drinking or urination.
🧣 Be mindful that pet clothing and or heating pads/packs are size suitable and allow for normal physical movement, not too tight and are never placed directly onto your pet’s skin.

The above can be indicative of arthritis, pain and or brain ageing. Yes pets get dementia just like us!
There’s lots of ways we can help so comment here or give our friendly team a call! 📞

Remember we’re here for you in all seasons!

🩺MEET THE TEAM🩺

Sam - Veterinary Nurse 💙

Samantha started her vet nursing career in the equine industry due to her love for horses. After many years of learning and gaining her Cert IV qualification, Sam decided to challenge herself and switch to "smallies"; where she could utilise her existing skills and add to her veterinary nursing belt. Sam hasn't looked back!

Sam joined our team in 2020 and loves how much she has gained in a supportive and busy work environment. Starting off loving surgery and hospital, Sam is now one of our senior dental nurses who under veterinarian supervision, helps to assess, grade and clean patient teeth, that are admitted for dental procedures in clinic.

Outside of work, Sam spends her time riding her horses, hanging out with her ginger cat Jack and her doggos Jani, Harvey & Roxy. Sam also loves to read and draw and loves that she can call many of her work colleagues, her friends.

Thanks for all you do Sam!

Enjoy yourselves this Easter 🐣 and remember to be vigilant around curious snouts, pestering paws and cheeky claws!

🗑️ Keep bins up high or in closed cupboards to avoid scavenging.
🍟 Tell friends and family not to feed you pets including scraps off their plates.
👧Make sure the kiddos keep their Easter bunny stash out of reach.
🐣 Easter egg hunts and toys keep to an area to limit the likelihood of ingestion.

Remember we’re here if you need us!
