🌡️ With the severe heat wave hitting Darwin, it's crucial to keep our dogs safe from heat stroke🌡
Always provide plenty of water, allow access to air conditioning, and avoid the hottest parts of the day for walks.
Also, remember to check the pavement with your palm—if it's too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws! 🐾
Let’s keep our pups cool and healthy! 🐾💧
ℹ️ DOGSNT: IT'S HEATING UP IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY!
🆘️ HEAT STROKE IN DOGS!
Summer is coming! As the Red Centre & the Top End start to warm up, keeping an eye on our dogs is important!
🌞 As it heats up out there remember:
🐕🦺 Walk them during the cooler times of the day, usually before 8:00 am in the mornings & after 5:30 pm.
🚶♂️Always walk them at their own pace & allow them to have a break on the grass if needed.
🛣️ Watch their paws on hot melting pathways. Walk on the grass when possible.
🏀 Playing with them should take place in the early mornings or late afternoon, in a shady area, with cool grass to lay on & fresh water available.
🚲 Do not bike ride with your dog attached to a lead, most dogs will keep going even if it is too much for them.
⏰ Short walks with lots of stops to let them sniff around & mark their territory is sometimes more stimulating & enriching for a dog. Much safer than a long walk fast or full on ball chasing session!
🐶 Brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs, cavaliers etc), will have a harder time cooling themselves down through panting, so be extra cautious if you own a breed like this.
