🐾 Hey Darwin Dog People! 🐾

If you’re passionate about dogs and staying up to date with the latest in training and behaviour, mark your calendars — the APDT Australia Conference 2025 is happening in Adelaide! 🎉

🗓️ Thursday 2 October – Sunday 5 October
📍 Stamford Grand Adelaide

This year, we’ve got an awesome lineup, with international speakers Dr Amber Batson Understand Animals, Chirag Patel, Kim Brophey(via Zoom), plus local legends Peta Clarke and Laura Ryder.

If you’re new to it, APDT Australia is one of the country's peak bodies for dog training, promoting force-free, positive reinforcement methods. The conference is always a brilliant few days of learning, connection, and inspiration.

As a proud committee member, I’ll be heading down from Darwin — and I’d love to see some NT trainers there! It’s a fantastic chance to learn, connect, and be part of a bigger training community.

Early Bird registration is open until 31st July 2025.

The APDT is very pleased to announce that Conference 2025 is at the Stamford Grand Adelaide from Thursday 2 October – Sunday 5 October.

Cleo and Luka are showing some amazing progress with their training! 🌟 They’re learning to stay calm and not bark at the neighbour's cows, and I couldn't be prouder! 🐄✨

Using force-free methods, we’re slowly building their confidence and calmness around these big animals. 🐮

Instead of feeling fearful and reactive, they’re learning to associate the cows with calmness and treats, helping them understand that the cows are just another non-threatening part of their environment. 💚

It’s wonderful to see them becoming more relaxed and attentive with each session. 🥰

🌡️ With the severe heat wave hitting Darwin, it's crucial to keep our dogs safe from heat stroke🌡

Always provide plenty of water, allow access to air conditioning, and avoid the hottest parts of the day for walks.

Also, remember to check the pavement with your palm—if it's too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws! 🐾

Let’s keep our pups cool and healthy! 🐾💧

ℹ️ DOGSNT: IT'S HEATING UP IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY!
🆘️ HEAT STROKE IN DOGS!
Summer is coming! As the Red Centre & the Top End start to warm up, keeping an eye on our dogs is important!
🌞 As it heats up out there remember:

🐕‍🦺 Walk them during the cooler times of the day, usually before 8:00 am in the mornings & after 5:30 pm.
🚶‍♂️Always walk them at their own pace & allow them to have a break on the grass if needed.
🛣️ Watch their paws on hot melting pathways. Walk on the grass when possible.
🏀 Playing with them should take place in the early mornings or late afternoon, in a shady area, with cool grass to lay on & fresh water available.
🚲 Do not bike ride with your dog attached to a lead, most dogs will keep going even if it is too much for them.
⏰ Short walks with lots of stops to let them sniff around & mark their territory is sometimes more stimulating & enriching for a dog. Much safer than a long walk fast or full on ball chasing session!
🐶 Brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs, cavaliers etc), will have a harder time cooling themselves down through panting, so be extra cautious if you own a breed like this.

⚠️ SIGNS OF HEAT STRESS!

💀 Heat stress can have damaging & long term effects on dogs, which are sometimes irreversible & often life threatening, resulting in death.

⚠️ HEAT STROKE IN DOGS IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION!

🩺 If any of these signs below happen, please contact your local vet IMMEDIATELY!

Here's a wonderful example of teaching dogs and little ones to coexist happily and safely! 🤩

By setting up a Safety Zone for the Pup, he has a space where he can relax and find some peace when needed from the energetic toddler!

Clear visuals help the child understand how close they can get to the Pups safe area, making interactions smoother for everyone.

Small adjustments can have huge impacts on everyone's peace and safety! 🥰
