Last Saturday night, 3 club members performed a cane toad bust at the FBEC club grounds.

In just over 2 hours, over 50 cane toads were collected in 50% of the club grounds.

For us thus is a huge increase in toad numbers caught at this time of the year, showing how the early wet season has been favourable for the toads.

We like to do our part to help keep the East Point Wildlife safe. This highlights the importance of ongoing toad busts at FBEC and the East Point Reserve.

FBEC members hope to run another toad bust soon!! Look out for our flyer if you would like to join us to help keep our native wildlife safer.

We have lots of poo!! Only $3 a bag.

Horses were in their stables over the cyclone weekend, so we have lots of extra poo. Perfect to fertilise your garden with more rain expected next week.

Cyclone Fina impacted Darwin and Fannie Bay Equestrian Club as a Category 3 cyclone off the Coast of Darwin last weekend.

We had well over 250ml of rain between Saturday 22nd - Sunday 23rd of November.

Many of you are aware that our beautiful grounds have several large African Mahogany Trees planted after Cyclone Tracy. Each cyclone that hits Darwin we often loose a few more.

Cyclone Fina was no different. We had six large mahogany trees come down. Four impacted the back paddocks and fences and two came down right beside a stable block. Amazingly they missed the horses that were in those stables.

Thankfully none of our horses were hurt and only fences and some stable damage was sustained.

Our amazing members came together to help prepare prior to the cyclone, packing away equipment and preparing for the strong winds and rain.

Guess we will be doing some more tree planting this wet season!!

NEW OVERHEAD LIGHTS FOR OUR RIDING ARENAS

FBEC is very thankful to be one of 290 Australian organisations (out of thousands) to receive a grant from the Australian Government through the Play Our Way program.

The Play Our Way program was established to promote equitable opportunities for women and girls to benefit from sport by addressing barriers to participation.

The $50,000 grant enabled us to install 12 new overhead lights, 6 in our dressage arena and 6 in the jumping arena so that our members (who are mostly women and girls) are able to ride after dark.

They now have many more hours to enjoy their chosen sport - especially when it is cooler – which is a bonus in Darwin’s challenging climate.

Did you know the NT has the highest participation rate per capita in equestrian sports in Australia? Who would have thought it? Go FBEC members

Fannie Bay Equestrian Club recently received a Minor Community Grant from the NT Government towards the cost of a new horse wash bay. We are very appreciative of the support we receive from the NT Government for our not-for-profit community club.

Thanks to the grant, some club fundraising and a small band of dedicated FBEC members who volunteered their time, strength and expertise to build it, we no longer have the “worst horse wash bay” in Darwin.

Our 60+ year old wash bay has finally been replaced with a new ‘state of the art’ facility with a roof for shade, overhead hoses, proper drainage, lights and power points for all our members, their horses and farriers to enjoy using.
