Meet Betty BAM-A-LAM 🎶🐱
A sleek mini panther, but also hilariously energetic and a little goofy in the most lovable way 🥰

Every morning Betty loves to greet you with outstretch paws, asking to be lifted up for a cuddle 🤗 While her affection knows no bounds, snuggle time is on her schedule as this little void has her days filled to the brim with things to do!

This zoomie queen LOVES to play, whether it's hide and seek or chasing anything that moves. Her antics are pure entertainment - one minute she'll be gracefully surveying her domain, the next she's doing ridiculous acrobatics chasing a feather wand. You'll find yourself laughing at her silly shenanigans daily 😹

What are Betty's favourite toys you ask? Balls - love them. Wands - absolutely. But paper and cardboard boxes - is there a stronger word than obsessed?! 📦📄❤️

One smart cookie, she's quickly figured out her puzzle toys. Not to mention she knows exactly which draw the treats are kept in and will tell you when puzzles are empty of delicious treats!

After a full-on morning of playing, she loves to catch some 💤 in her cat cubby, or her cozy bed, positioned next to your side 🐱❤️

A forever home with plenty of toys, scratching posts, cubbies and hidey holes are on her wish list. A secure outdoor catio? 🚩 Mythbusting the BIN: Breeder Identification Number 🚩
The BIN (also known as a supply number) - a simple system created to help trace every puppy back to its breeder and promote responsible breeding is broken.

It was a good idea in principle but loopholes are letting bad practices slip through the cracks.

Each year, RSPCA Queensland receives around 230 complaints related to dog breeding. We see the same problems again and again 👇

❌ No verification of breeder details
🙋‍♂️ Breeders can have multiple supplier numbers, making tracking difficult
📋 No link to council permits - legal compliance goes unchecked
⚠ No auditing or enforcement - expired or fake numbers go unchecked

The key issue is traceability. When the system fails, the consequences are wide-ranging, from dogs raised in substandard conditions to puppies sold with sicknesses or genetic issues.

✅ It's time to fix the broken BIN.
Changes are needed so it’s stronger, more transparent and effective at stopping puppy farms.

Every wag tells a story, and today it’s Lacie’s turn!

Just 9 months old, this Labrador Retriever x Bull Arab came into our care as a stray with her brother on 11th July. She didn’t have to wait too long before finding her perfect match — and now we’ve received this gorgeous update from her new mum, Alyssa from Griffin:

“I thought I would give everyone an update on Lacie and how she is going since I adopted her two weeks ago.

"I’m happy to say that she is settling in nicely and really starting to come out of her shell. She absolutely loves going on walks and to the dog park, where she’s made heaps of friends. The neighbour’s kids adore her too — she soaks up every pat and bit of attention.

"Like any pup, she’s discovered a passion for digging and chewing, so she now has her very own clam shell full of dirt to dig in, plus lots of toys to keep her busy. She’s still a huge cuddle bug and loves being the centre of attention, especially at the dog park.

"I’m also happy to share that after a recent vet visit for her booster vaccination, she’s now at a healthy weight and got fantastic results and feedback from the vet!”

We’re so happy to see Lacie thriving in her new home, surrounded by love, fun, and plenty of pats 💕

🔵 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐋 — 𝐑𝐔𝐌𝐈 #𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 #𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥

Beautiful Rumi came into our care after being abandoned at a vet surgery with her three kittens. At just around 2-years-old, this sweet girl had already been through so much. 💔

But over the weekend, her story turned around when Jessie from Strathpine welcomed her home! Jessie shared this gorgeous update with us:

“Rumi (previously Anastasia) has settled in so beautifully! She’s been so comfortable from the start that she’s already explored the whole house, claimed the toys and scratching boards, and made plenty of biscuits on my partner, my daughter Elysia, and even me. She even helped me settle Ely to sleep with her purrs and cuddles. She’s been purring non-stop, has the sweetest little meow, and has already curled up in our bed like the queen she is. We feel so lucky to have her 💙”

We couldn’t be happier to see Rumi loved and spoiled in her new home. 🏡✨ Thank you, Jessie and family, for giving her the second chance she deserves. 💕

As many of you know, our adoption cats have recently been in quarantine. Over the past few days, our team has been working hard to give their pens a deep clean to make sure everything is completely safe and virus-free.

This unfortunately meant saying goodbye to all of our big scratching posts and cat trees 😿 — which our cats absolutely adore.

So we’re reaching out to our amazing community for help! 💛 If you have any good-quality cat scratchers (like the ones pictured) that you no longer need — or if you’d love to donate one — our cats (and our team!) would be so grateful.

Every scratcher helps our cats feel more comfortable, enriched, and ready to meet their forever families. 🏡🐱

All donations will be very gratefully accepted at 𝐑𝐒𝐏𝐂𝐀 𝐃𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐍, Goodwin Road. Donations can be dropped off any day from around 8am to 4pm.

Our dogs may not have been able to make it to the last day of the EKKA but they were spoiled yesterday thanks to our amazing Sunday volunteer crew! 💚 They were treated to pup cups and even got their very own bacon show bags – safe to say tails were wagging all afternoon. 🐶✨

Last November, a little grey kitten named Juno arrived at our Wacol Campus with her mum and three siblings. From the very beginning, Juno showed us she was a confident and affectionate kitten, always ready to purr her way into someone’s heart.

On the 12th of January, Juno’s big moment came – she was adopted from 𝐑𝐒𝐏𝐂𝐀 𝐃𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐍 by the Robinson Family from Nudgee. They renamed her Minty and welcomed her into their home with open arms. 💕

Fast forward to today, Minty is now 10 months old and thriving. The Robinsons shared this sweet update with us:
“Hi, we adopted our kitten Juno, now called Minty, in January. She is living her best life – eating lots of food and growing fast. She loves playtime and zoomies and snuggling up in bed when it’s cold.”

Just look at her now, tucked under the blankets like the little queen she is! 👑🐾

Thank you to the Robinson Family for giving Minty the loving forever home she truly deserves. 💕

Change is in motion for greyhounds 🐶🎉
The Tasmanian Government has announced it will phase out greyhound racing by 30 June 2029, citing concerns about animal welfare and the industry’s future.

Premier Rockliff said: “It’s time to draw a line in the sand and ensure an orderly exit from greyhound racing in Tasmania, in line with community expectations.”

While the Queensland Government has no such plan, the decision in Tasmania, and similar moves recently in New Zealand and Wales, shows a growing shift in how governments respond to welfare concerns in greyhound racing.

We continue to press Racing Queensland, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission and greyhound racing clubs on the many welfare issues facing racing greyhounds in this state. Following the decisions in Tasmania and New Zealand, we will intensify our calls for stronger import controls to stop dogs from these jurisdictions being sent here to keep racing, particularly given the high rate of deaths and injuries at the new Q Track.

Our priority is to ensure these greyhounds are rehomed and able to live as pets, not sent interstate to face the same welfare risks elsewhere.

Yesterday, we were blown away by the generosity of a wonderful local family who made a huge donation to our shelter — beautiful warm blankets, brand new toys, and much-needed cat scratchers for our feline friends.

This incredible gift will help keep our animals warm, comfortable, and entertained while they wait for their forever homes. 🐾
