We’re on the lookout for a motivated, reliable farm hand to join our team.

This is a hands-on role across a commercial and stud operation, working with both sheep and cattle under real conditions.

What you’ll be doing:
• Stock work across sheep and cattle breeding
• Intensive feeding operations
• Assisting with cropping & pasture management
• Operating farm machinery
• Working both independently and as part of a team

What we’re looking for:
• Solid stock handling skills
• Experience with working dogs (a big plus)
• Mechanical ability / machinery know-how
• General farm maintenance (fencing, repairs, etc.)
• Driver’s licence
• A good attitude and strong work ethic

We run a progressive operation with a focus on performance, practicality, and have a bit of fun along the way.

A big well done to all the organisers of the Balmoral Breeders Sire Evaluation Day for putting on a fantastic event last Friday, and to all breeders who entered. These days are invaluable for benchmarking genetics across the industry.

Kurra-Wirra had three rams entered across two age groups (including one link sire), and we were extremely pleased with how they represented the KW type — early growth, doing ability, structural integrity and quality white wools.

In the hoggets, Mr Perfect 210538 certainly lived up to his name and, in our eyes, was easily the standout pen on display. To be right at the top for both performance data and visual appraisal is a significant achievement. His performance has been so strong that he is now being used as a link sire in two additional sire evaluations across Australia, highlighting the impact he is having on the industry.

Also in the hoggets was 200427, used as a link sire, who has already proven himself nationally. Originally entered in New England where he dominated, he has since been used across the South West Slopes, MerinoLink and Balmoral trials as a link. A serious sheep — with +15.39 YWT and -0.82 wrinkle, he’s a ram that has stamped his mark both at KW and across Australia.

In the lamb section, 230939 stood out for his exceptional wool quality, arguably the best across both age groups on display. He combined this with depth, structure and doing ability, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he progresses through the trial.

The big takeaway for us was the consistency of the KW type — superior wool, body and structure — with all three rams showing the same traits while standing up against some of the best genetics in the industry.

We really enjoyed having the Balmoral K-12 Community College ag students out at Arundale last week to take a look at our sheep feedlot.

We spent some time going through how a feedlot operates, including how we formulate rations and balance the right mix of feed ingredients to achieve the results we’re aiming for in lamb performance. It was great to see the students asking plenty of questions and getting an insight into the practical side of feeding and managing sheep in a feedlot system.

It’s always encouraging to see young people interested in agriculture and keen to learn more about how modern farming systems work.

And to finish the visit off with something every young country kid enjoys — watching two bulldozers enlarging a dam. Hard to beat a bit of earthmoving for entertainment!

This morning, we welcomed a group of impressive students from Marcus Oldham to Kurra-Wirra. Their engagement and questions were fantastic. We explored a range of topics, including KW management, enterprises, building apps, and genetics. The next generation is in good hands! Marcus Oldham

The Angus Australia Foundation, in partnership with specialist agricultural insurer Achmea Farm Insurance , is pleased to announce the successful participants selected for the 2026 GenAngus Future Leaders Program (GenAngus). This year’s program has seen the highest number of applications, marking the strongest interest from emerging leaders since the program’s inception.

Now entering its eighth year, GenAngus continues to build on its reputation as the leading leadership and business development experience for emerging beef industry professionals. Since its inception in 2019, the program has supported more than 80 young beef leaders, many of whom have gone on to purchase land, establish or expand beef enterprises, step into management roles, and contribute actively to their local and national Angus communities.
