Poor little Cocoa just wanted to be the centre of attention while I was grooming Marley. šŸ„¹ā¤ļø

Every few minutes sheā€™d give me the sweetest little hand taps as if to say, ā€œExcuse meā€¦ youā€™re meant to be patting me!ā€ šŸ˜‚

I couldnā€™t help but laugh the entire groom.

Itā€™s always the tiniest dogs with the biggest personalities, and Cocoa is living proof. šŸ¾āœØ

POV: You spend ages getting the perfect before videoā€¦ then completely forget the after. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

Two days ago I bathed Frankie, managed to get her perfectly fluffed (which is no small achievement because sheā€™s not a fan of the dryer around her face), and filmed this with every intention of showing you her gorgeous finished groom.

Fast forward 2.5 hoursā€¦ Frankie looked like the absolute princess she isā€¦ and I forgot to film the after. šŸ« 

So instead, enjoy the best part of this videoā€”her happy little tail wag. šŸ„¹ Honestly, knowing our furry clients feel safe, loved and happy is worth more than any perfect before-and-after.

Meet Zhali šŸ¾ā¤ļø

This gorgeous girl was well overdue for her groom and had quite a few knots throughout her coat, which meant I couldnā€™t safely leave her as long as we would have liked.

Her beautiful mum had been doing her best to keep the hair around Zhaliā€™s eyes trimmed so she could still see, and I canā€™t tell you how much I appreciate owners who genuinely try to maintain their dogs between appointments. It really does make a difference. šŸ„¹

Not every coat can be kept mat-free, especially with curly or high-maintenance breeds, but even the little thingsā€”like keeping the eyes clear, brushing where you can, or asking for adviceā€”show how much you care.

I did everything I could to make Zhali as cute and comfortable as possible, and I think she wears her fresh groom pretty well. āœ‚ļøšŸ’• Wouldnā€™t you agree?

Meet Kinky, a gorgeous Old English Sheepdog! šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Kinky has been clipped in the past, and because of that his coat no longer releases its undercoat the way a healthy double coat naturally should. This means every groom requires a lot of extra time, care, and patience to safely remove the impacted coat while keeping his skin healthy and comfortable.

Today took around 3.5ā€“4 hours from start to finish, including a 45-minute bath using the closeā€“openā€“close method. He was shampooed three times and conditioned twice to help loosen the coat, nourish the hair, and make the deshedding process as gentle as possible.

Iā€™ve only been lucky enough to help this stunning old gentleman for his last two grooms, but he is such a sweetheart and so worth every minute. šŸ„°

This is why itā€™s so important to educate yourself before clipping a double-coated breed. In many cases, clipping can permanently change the coatā€™s texture and growth pattern, making it much harder for the coat to function as it was designed to. While there are situations where clipping is necessary for a dogā€™s welfare, it shouldnā€™t be the first option simply for convenience.

Regular brushing, routine deshedding, and professional grooming are the best ways to maintain a healthy double coat and help prevent situations like this.
