Sooo happy my eyes closed 🥰

It’s been a long week for me (Dex here still) because I’ve had a really sore bottom and I had to visit the vet 😢

But Mum and Dad took us on a nice walk today and I chased lots of bugs 🦋, my cup is full!

Then we went to visit Dad’s parent’s house and they have a cat. Spoiler alert, he wasn’t very happy to see us (Mali here now), swipe to see the photo 😜 But I found some balls in their backyard and I had SO much fun! 🎾

I know it’s been a while so I thought I’d share some snaps with you from the past few weeks of holidays!

I know, I know, there’s some common themes to these photos….. 🎾 … so you might be abit surprised to know they were all taken on different days!

We’ve had some big and sad developments in our family’s world this week 😢

Poor Mali girl had a seizure early Thursday morning and this afternoon she had another.

We are unsure what this means medically yet, but we are trying to avoid Dr Googling until our vet appt early next week.

Please keep your fingers and toes crossed that whatever the results, Mali will be healthy and well again soon, but also that she can continue the job she loves 🤞

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY 🐶

There are SO many benefits so when I’m asked what they are, it’s so easy to rattle off the science that’s been spoken about many times before! But I wanted to specifically focus also on what separates pets from animals specifically trained to engage with people for a purpose.

So this time I paused ⏸️ and thought more deeply.

What is it exactly that I value so much about AAT, enough to include it in almost all of my therapeutic interventions?! 🤔

Well, I’d love you to watch the video and find out but I know four minutes is a long time for many of you! So, here it is….

💚 Safe touch

We primarily work with people who have experienced trauma and abuse (sexual assault, family violence and more) and for many of these people, they haven’t had experiences of safe touch. But even for people who do not identify with trauma histories, so many people have had unsafe experiences of touch! Being hugged when you didn’t want to, being told to kiss your aunt/uncle/grandparent because it’s polite and so many more.
We live in a time where many people are touch starved (skin hungry as I recently heard it referred to as), but simultaneously experience only unsafe touch.

Mali went to her first The Survivor Hub meetup lastnight, which is her first group setting since qualifying as a Therapy Dog! 👩‍🎓

She has been gradually building up her stamina in individual appointments at Bloom, but she was extra excited for a solo car trip to a new place! 🚘

Dex was less thrilled about being left alone 🙄

Mali even got good feedback from the group members about her behaviour and engagement, so claps 👏🏼 for Mali.
