Another Guess the Breed! It’s a tricky one this week 🤪

Tear stains might look harmless, but they can be frustrating - especially on lighter coated dogs where they stand out like a sore thumb. Those reddish brown marks under the eyes are usually caused by an overproduction of tears, which can be triggered by:

🐶 Blocked tear ducts
🐶 Eye irritation or allergies
🐶 Certain face shapes (hello, Poodles, Maltese & Shih Tzus!)
🐶 Yeast or bacteria growth in the fur

The good news?
There are ways to help keep them in check.

Quick tips for reducing tear stains:

Keep the area clean - Wipe under your dog’s eyes daily with a damp cloth or a dog safe eye wipe.

Switch the bowl - Use stainless steel or ceramic bowls instead of plastic, which can harbour bacteria.

Check their water - Filtered water can help reduce mineral build-up that may contribute to staining.

Feed for coat & skin health - A balanced diet with quality protein and Omega-3s supports healthy skin and eyes.

Regular grooming - Keeping hair trimmed around the eyes stops tears from soaking in and staining the fur.

If tear stains suddenly worsen, or if your dog’s eyes seem irritated, watery, or sore, it’s always best to get your vet’s advice - sometimes there’s an underlying health reason that needs attention.
